Christmas in New York is the best
and this is why
There are numerous fields in which New Yorkers outdo themselves. Crossing the street during a red light, not using any kitchen utensils, unnecessary honking and equally loud sirens. But the thing they might just win the first place prize in, is Christmas.
Yesterday morning I strolled through the streets and the Christmas fever really has kicked in and for some reason you immediately find yourself on the hunt for a cup of hot cocoa. The lights, the angels, the green and red ribbons; they have all taken over New Yorks scenery. And it is sensational. It’s going to be our third Christmas in the city and I’m crossing my fingers that we’ll be having another white one. But even without any snow this place is a fairytale and you’ll find me gliding over the ice skating rink alongside all the other locals and tourists. But there’s a ton more, check it out here:
FROM Bergdorf tot Macy’s, wat ben je mooi.
Every store is abundantly filled with lights to shine just as bright as any Christmas tree, elf or ornament. But the department store windows might just be the pinnacle of Christmas glory. This year Bergdorf opted for a Swarovski glitter parade but Saks, Lord & Taylor and Henri Bendel had some pretty sights for sore eyes too. So m advice: buy an XXL cup of coffee and stroll from the 26th street down to 5th Avenue.
HOT Chocolate and Cafe Cluny
Not only Uptown, but Downtown has slowly transformed into a Christmas card too. Every porch in the West Village has been decorated and every door has a garland. Stroll through the area once it has snowed – set your alarm early, put on your moon boots and you’ll be the fist to leave a trail in the crispy white fresh snow in the West Village. Such a fairytale. And then end your walk at Cafe Cluny for some hot cocoa.
soaring on ice
Go to the Wollman Rink in Central Park. There’s an iceskating rink in Bryant Park too, but the view isn’t as pretty. The place will be packed though so be aware of the bunch who are skating for the first time. Regardless, it’s always a lot of fun; skating in between New York City’s sky skyscrapers.
Dance tradition
A lot of people go to a mass for Christmas but in New York they also have another tradition: The Nutcracker. And this year too, dozens of people will we watching the wonderful Christmas spectacle filled with beautiful costumes. So enchanting!
