Everything you need to know about the Oscars 2015

As we’re writing this, in Hollywood the A-listers are probably dancing on the tables at after-party number three or lurching towards their town car with Louboutins in one hand and an In ‘n Out burger in the other. Sunday night was Oscar Night, the most glamorous night of the year, and we’re going to tell you everything you need to know about it.

Academy Awards

Red carpet galore

As the arrival on the red carpet is almost as exciting as the award show itself, the invitees get four hours to find their way along the 150 metre long red carpet in front of the Dolby Theatre. Reese Witherspoon and Emma Stone, who have always appeared impeccable this award season, expressed their support for a campaign stimulating a little more in depth content on the red carpet. Under hashtag #askhermore, they invite the press to ask less about frocks and jewelry and more about the work that brought them to the event in the first place.

Winning

The movie Birdman was the big winner this year. Actors Julianne Moore, Eddy Redmayne, Patricia Arquette and J.K. Simmons got to take home the world’s most beloved golden guy and John Legend and Common’s track Glory from the film Selma won the Oscar for best soundtrack.

Emotions all over the place

Naturally John Legend and Common were there to perform the track. A performance that moved hunky hunk hunk Chris Pine to tears and thus melted many a woman’s heart. Lady Gaga also managed to touch everyone with her masterly and beautiful performance marking the 50-year anniversary of The Sound of Music. The hug Julie Andrews gave her afterwards made for a glorious full circle moment.

Girl power

For years the 45 seconds given at the microphone after an Oscar win have been used for much more than simply thanking Mum, Dad and God. Winners gladly seize the chance to raise political and social issues. Patricia Arquette in her speech spoke out for women equility. Something many women applauded, including very enthusiastic neighbours Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lopez.

Despite the steps being taken each year to ensure the evening runs smoothly, it remains a long sit. Benedict Cumberbatch anticipated 30 minutes the show ran late and amused himself with swigs from his hip flask.

Vanity Fair

Oscar Viewing parties are held all over Hollywood, but there are two with guest lists just as impressive as the awards itself. In first place is the Vanity Fair Oscar Viewing and After Party. It counts as the most important party during award season. Only the absolute coolest film, music, fashion and sports folk receive an invitation and it’s totally impossible for mere mortals to get in. It’s also the first stop for Oscar winners after the show. Here Jackie and Joan Collins sit in a corner catching up with Lady Gaga, while Jack Nicholson chats up Beyoncé and J.Lo at the bar.

Elton John

You can keep on party-hopping by dropping in on the annual soiree of Sir Elton John. For 23 years the music legend has been throwing an Oscar benefit on behalf of the Elton John AIDS Foundation. To enjoy this you first need to receive an invitation first, and then lay out a minimum of $3000 per person to be allowed in. Permanent fixtures here are fellow Brits such as the Beckhams and Osbournes and many big names from the music and modeling world. To name a few; Gigi Hadid, Heidi Klum, Alessandra Ambrosio, Miley Cyrus and Kylie Minogue were there to shake things up on the dance floor.
