Okay, obviously getting fit in one day is a bit of an exaggeration, but there are plenty of sports you can do for a couple of hours making you sore in places you never even knew was possible. Paddle boarding happens to be one of those sports. It’s when you’re standing on a surfboard and use a paddle to maneuver yourself. When would you ever being doing this? Exactly. Only if you just so happen to be a frequent rower. But anyway, there are a few sports which might not be considered a common workout, but they’re great to try out for a day and are guaranteed to raise your heart rate and give you a kick ass workout.

paddle boarding

So it may look kind of lame, but trust me, it is everything but. May and I did it in Saint Tropez and we are sold. Working out your arms in your bikini on a surfboard (with a tan as a bonus). Oh, and don’t forget about those abs who are working up a sweat. At least if you’re doing it correctly. It’s all about balance which is great for your core. Completely and utterly sold.

horseback riding

When you think about horse back riding, intense workout might not be the first thing that comes to mind.  I’ve tried it once (and one time only) and my legs and thighs were sore for about a week. It might not be a fat burning sport per se, but it is very active. Try out the galloping position, now that is what I call a badass workout.

sailing

Two weeks ago May-Britt and Liesbeth spent a day on a gigantic boat (with engine) staring at a bunch good looking sailors. Though they might have spent their time chilling on the boat, sailing is an ultimate workout. “Pull the bowline, heave the buoy, hang in the trapeze, climb the mast, utter concentration and balance. All good for the core.” Thank you Liesbeth.

Waterskiing

Put me in the water with a pair of water skis and it will seriously take an hour or so before I even manage to stand up straight for at least a minute. The tug at your arms is so strong (while trying to keep them tense) and don’t even get me started on your legs which you are meant to keep stable.

Mountain biking

Off road evidently, or in the mountains. You need quite a bit of endurance for this sport, and since you spend a decent amount of time cycling standing up, your legs are getting an insane work out. So who’s down to join me?
