7 Gift ideas for a traveler

who’s going on a long trip

This weekend I’ll be attending the goodbye party of a super sweet couple who are off on a long trip. They’ll be leaving their rental home, they’ve sold their car, most of their furniture can be found on Ebay, and they’ve both quit their jobs. With a fully loaded backpack on their backs, off into the wild they go. They’ll see what awaits them when they return in 4 months.

Very daring and extremely thrilling, which evidently deserves a massive hug and many ‘have fun’– wishes. And since you can’t show up at a goodbye party empty handed, new group chats have been made to deliberate what to get them as a goodbye gift which will actually be useful during their travels. See, a blank notebook is great and all, but it’s quite an obvious gift and always ends up being left behind. I did a little round at the office for some fun new ideas.

Liesbeth, for example, received a little notebook from one of her best friends. Yes, exactly, a notebook, but what made this one special was that her friend had already written down little messages in it and had added photos. For example, after about 20 pages she would find the following message: “Where are you now? I miss you!” Yes, it was deliciously sweet.

Continuing along in the category special notebooks, a group of my friends and I once filled a little binder with a ton of different envelopes with texts such as: “Open this if you’re feeling homesick” or: “Feeling happy? Quickly open this envelope” or: “In love? We’ve got advice, open me!” Those kinds of things. It was very much appreciated.

Our beauty editor immediately came up with the ‘mini’s-idea’. A make-up bag filled with assorted beauty care products, but then miniature versions.

You’ll probably also like the idea of giving them some money in the currency of the first country they’ll be visiting.

May thought it would be romantic to give them towels and to have their initials imprinted on them.

If you happen to know in which hotel they’ll be staying, then a bottle of champagne is a very exquisite way of starting off your holiday.

Someone also called out that it would be a fun idea to make a sort of coupon for an activity they can do. Skydiving, bungee jumping… Just to name a few.
