5 Things that we have learned
from KIM K’S HAIR sytlist
Here in the editorial room there is always a constant buzz surrounding Kim Kardashian, but I have a little allergy when if comes to all the Kim K hysteria, to be honest. I mean, I can show some enthusiasm when it comes to her change of style, but otherwise I think it’s more a case of fuss making hoo-ha than quality. One thing that I do find interesting is her va va voom hair. Because that hair is just way too cool, always look amazing and everybody wants that.
Jen Atkin is the lady behind her locks. She also just happens to be the lady behind the looks of J.Lo, Reese Witherspoon and Cara Delevingne. When Harper’s Bazaar put out a piece with her five best hair tips, I just had to share it with you right away. Because let’s face it: a few tips from Jen and the world is a much happier place.
1.
Take time between trims
“Normally, people go to the hairdresser every eight weeks, but try to stretch this out a bit longer. You might suffer from a week of bad-hair-days, but afterwards it will look wildly amazing.”
2.
Skip the prep products
“I’m pretty old-school, so I find all the different prep products all a little unnecessary. If the hair is very thin, then you may need a bit of extra product. Normally I use 10 to 15 sprays of the Ocean Mist from Sachajuan. Personally, I’m not a fan of layering mousses, protective products and all that stuff, because I find that it makes the hair drop even faster. Instead, just use dry shampoo on dry hair, and that will take care of volume and texture.”
3.
Always use more
“My signature is the undone waves look. For this all you need to do is wrap sections of hair around curling wands of different size. Never use one size only, but always have several on hand. You don’t want the look to be too uniform. And a tip from the pro; always hold the curling wand vertical and curl your hair away from the face. And never curl the ends; keep them straight. So, hello undone waves!”
4.
More is more
“For brides, I think that updo’s always work. You never know what the day will bring, how long it lasts and whether they end up drunk on the dance floor. With an updo it always stays in place and looks good. If you do go for a loose, down style, then use a lot of hairspray. And, the trick is natural extensions, always clip-ins, never glue. Then at least if the curl falls the hair will still seem full. Your hair always photographs thinner, so go big or go home.”
5.
Fake full hair
“I am a huge advocate of eyeshadow on the hairline particularly if the skin is very fair. It’s all about the complete image and doing this makes the hair look so much healthier and fuller.”
