how to avoid gaining weight

during the holidays

We’re counting down the days until we get to indulge in our holiday food fests and you’ve probably already decided that you’re not going back to counting calories until after the calendar hits January 1st. I mean, the 25th, 26th and 30th are most likely days you plan on stuffing yourself with food, am I right? I personally hate the bloated feeling you get, especially after you’ve been confronted with a table full of French cheeses, charcuterie’s and freshly baked bread. But there are ways to avoid the feeling, especially when you’ve got more than one food fest penciled into your agenda. Here are my tips to survive the holidays:

  • You don’t have to avoid everything that’s decked out on the table. It’s all about doses. Go for small portions of everything.
  • Don’t limit the amount of food you’re going to be eating the week before Christmas and then go all out for the holiday. This will backfire. Eat regularly to keep your metabolism going and an extra jog around the neighborhood will never hurt.
  • Speaking of running. I know going to the gym on the first day of Christmas probably isn’t something you want to be doing, so switch it up and go for a morning stroll. This will help you get over the potential hangover from the night before and it’ll work up your appetite.
  • Did you know that champagne, prosecco and vodka contain less calories than wine? Good excuse to be sippin’ on champagne the rest of the evening if you ask me.
  • Share your desserts instead of eating your own plate full.
  • Eat sloooowly. Luckily you won’t be in a rush at the dinner table. The quicker you eat, the bigger the chances of you burping. Not charming.
  • So I’ll be seeing you in the gym on the 1st of January? Just kidding…
