How to find the perfect pair of running shoes
One of our readers emailed me regarding this subject. Great topic. She wanted to buy a pair of shoes online but giving her advice was a bit tricky since a great fit really depends on the size of your foot, your weight, where you plan on running and the distance (long or short). And you want them to look good too. So there are a whole lot of things you need to take into consideration. Here are a few of my tips when you’re looking for the perfect pair of running shoes, but then you do really need to head on over to a store and don’t go buying them online.
– Head on over to a store that is specialized in running shoes. A store that has a treadmill so you see what works and what doesn’t right away. Crucial.
– Know exactly what you plan on using them for. Long distance, short distance and the type of surface you’ll be running on. Once you’ve made these things clear, there will be a bunch of shoes ‘out of the running.’ And this elimination makes the decision process easier.
– You’re not meant to be feeling any irritations or pain at your pressure points. If you do, it can lead to injuries. Your big toe also needs at least half a centimeter of space.
– When you’re trying on shoes, try them on with socks that you would also use when you go running. That way you know you’re getting the right size.
– Don’t be shocked when you end up buying a size that is larger than the size you normally buy for your other shoes. My running shoes are usually 1,5 to 2 sizes up.
– Oh, and also very important, don’t be greedy with prices for running shoes. Avoiding injuries is the most important thing. This doesn’t mean you have to go and buy the most expensive pair, but you get what I mean. Be kind to your feet.
– As soon as you’ve found the perfect pair, it’s okay to purchase them online. But I would still advise a store since new shoes are released every month and it is always better to see things first hand.
Good luck!
