HOW TO KEEP YOUR COLOUR

I’m a very dark brunette, but I colored my hair a lot blonder this spring. It was a step in the right direction but as blondes have more fun I wanted to go even lighter. My friends at the salon gave me a few extra highlights and would you believe it, more eyes looked my way. Because being looked at is kind of fun (an extra bonus as this was not my original intention). I wanted to know how I could make my color last. My research took me straight to the bottom, and that’s just where I wanted to go.

Feed it!

Colored hair has the tendency to dry out quicker. Hydrating is therefore very important. The cuticles of your hair become open if you color it making it dry and dull. You use cream when you’re suffering from dry skin right? Do the same for your hair. Guhl has a goodie, especially suited for colored hair. It’s commonly advisable to use special color-suited products to wash your hair. KMS has a special shampoo and conditioner that also nourishes the hair.

Shower? Think twice

If you have colored hair it’s better not to shower at all. You can do without for a few weeks right? Ha ha, just kidding. Don’t worry. But it is better not to wash your hair too much. Especially when you’re on vacation. In some other countries they often have a higher chloride percentage in the water. Chloride is not only bad for your skin it drains the color out of your hair. If you want to know what the water’s like in Thailand for example, check out the Water Advisor App. Everything for your hair huh?

Water filter

If you really want the best for your hair and skin you can choose to have a water filter installed in your shower. Or you fill a bath with Evian or some other posh mineral water. Your choice.

Hats and hoods

Colored hair has to be protected against the sun. It has something to do with those open cuticles I told you about. Sunbeams enhance this process. I loved wearing hats before but now that it’s also for protection. You won’t see me without one this summer. So I say stock up on headgear. You’ll find some here.
