HOW TO MAKE THE BEST FOODPIC ON INSTAGRAM
A photo of me in a hip outfit doesn’t really do much for my Instagram followers. They prefer me in sneakers in some sassy bistro eating lunch after a late workout. I always take pictures from above. All those seated have to put aside their uneasy feelings as long as my production is in session. It takes a lot of moving around and me hanging above the table for at least five minutes te get the perfect shot. Yes people, it may seem like a whim of the moment on my timeline but it takes ages to prepare. Sometimes I fantasize about opening an Instagrammable restaurant because most of the time the terrible lighting makes everything look like dark muck.
I qualify to call myself a bit of a pro seeing as I hover above the table at least twice a day. And I’ve also figured out the best tips and tricks. So here’s a #tipvanjet for making the best Instagram food photo, try it. I promise you I’ll like it.
The best photos are made with daylight. I understand taking a picture of your plate in the evening seems tempting but the result isn’t so much.
Never flash.
Don’t use a filter. The picture will become grainy, the kale will turn brown and the beetroot will turn pink. Not OK.
Taking the picture from above is a great angle. No background distractions.
Make sure everything on your plate is recognizable. A blob of applesauce might look like vomit or something. Hold your camera just above the plate at an angle and you can see it’s a piece of meat. Always make sure that everything standing behind the plate is fun to look at, like a glass of wine for example.
The less you have on your plate, the prettier the picture.
White tables (or marble top, very latest) work really well. Colour contrast is nice.
