I prefer sunny destinations rather than the slopes, but now that a slight breeze has taken over the city and I have plundered my wardrobe to find my winter coat and I am actually looking forward to some snow. And chilling by the fireplace and cheese fondues. Getting up in the morning when it’s still dark out is something I don’t think I will ever get used to but other than that, the winter months can be rather satisfying. Here are a few tips on how to beat a winter slump.
– GET OUT OF BED. Ha, this one’s directed towards me too. Set your alarm, jump under the shower and set up a meeting with a friend. As soon as you’ve gotten out of bed and set your first steps out of the door then you’ll almost be over your slump. And trust me, I know. I’d prefer to stay under my covers all day too, but that’s going to get you nowhere.
– Go to bed earlier. That way you’ll be happier when you wake up in the morning. It’s dark out early anyway so it’s fine to hide under your covers. Watch a movie in bed or something, you’ll doze off quickly. Give ten thirty a try. Shouldn’t be too hard should it?
– Oh and when you go to bed leave a window slightly open. Your initial thought might be that it will be too cold, but you will have a better nights sleep. Don’t over heat your room.
– Don’t make it too dark at home. Light gives you energy. And don’t stay indoors all day either. Go out for a walk or find a café that has a heated terrace.
– Buy vitamin D supplements. You usually get your vitamin D intake from the sun but the sun will be playing hide and seek for a while.
– Be kind to yourself. What I mean is: make your home cozy, buy candles, fill your fridge, have a glass of wine or some chai tea, buy flowers, invite your friends over for dinner, wear your prettiest outfit and put on your favorite music. Do it. Seriously. You will walk around with a smile on your face for days.
