How to survive a hot summer’s day

A summer day is fun but melting make-up, smudgy eyeliner and super sticky lipstick are not. Even if you plan to spend the whole evening outside you want your make-up to look just as perfect as it did in the morning. So voilà here are a few tips to stay fresh in warm weather.

always a primer

A primer is a must when it’s warm out. Choose a matte one – Smashbox has a good one – This way sweat drops won’t affect your make-up and everything stays in place.

Bronzer!

A bronzer enhances your eyes, teeth look whiter and bring color to those who haven’t been touched by the sun. Don’t get carried away by swirling around that big powder brush, be discreet as you don’t want to end up looking like an Oompa Loompa. Make-up artist Troy Surratt advises a dab on your nose, forehead and chin. Use a powder bronzer. A cream bronzer and warm weather don’t go together. Don’t forget to powder your neck so the overflow to the rest of your (not so bronzed body) is smooth.

Light make-up

When using a bronzer keep your make-up light. Exchange your foundation for a favorable day cream. Feeling a little exposed? Add a tad of powder foundation to your moisturizer to give a slight color. Conjointly it’s not true you don’t tan when wearing foundation, the layer is this so the sun goes right through it. That’s why a day cream with SPF offers direct protection. By the way it’s not true that foundation protects you from the sun, you really need SPF.

try color

The summer is ideal for trying colors. Besides it looking very summery, bright colors give you a youthful glow. If you’re a little shy (look who’s talking), choose one spot. Go for apple cheeks or pink lips.

shine vs glow

Shine is something different then a healthy glow. You get a shine from heat and a glow is a perfectly placed extra. That’s what you want. If you’re one of those people that are sensitive to heat and frequently see drops emerging, blotting papers are the answer. Just dab away leaving a matte finish. Another great tip is a matte sun lotion. Some extra protection is always a good idea. After a few rosé’s you’ll probably forget you’re out in the sun. Choose a special face sunscreen. They are more matte and less oily and thus more charming.

don’t overdo it

I already told you to keep it fresh. But you can’t go out without some color on your lips or eyes. Just don’t use any creams. They all get sticky and can leave lines on your eyelids – ugly. Sorry there’s no other way to put it. If you insist on using something go for a tinted lip balm with SPF or apply a cream base under your eye shadow.
