Most people who go out to dinner go into a kind of “ go for it ” mode. Starter, main, desert followed by a glass of something or other. You can brighten me up with a glass of Sambuca, I know; the sweetest and stickiest drink there is, but so very delicious. I often choose this instead of desert, cause it’s goes down a treat. Alrighty, it’s true we all end up stuffed after dinner; it doesn’t matter if you’re out or at home. You lean back, rub your tummy and say, “ I have definitely eaten too much.” I’m no saint, it has happened to me but it is a bit of a waste. You can hardly recall the taste of the starter and to make it worse you take another bite of your cheesecake after you have come to the conclusion that you are full. Sound familiar? I’ll give you a few tips to prevent you from coming to this point and how to relieve yourself of that full feeling.

how to prevent getting stuffed:

  • Drink a lot of water between bites.
  • Eat slowly; chew every bite at least 20 times (yep that much).
  • Put your cutlery down for a mini-food- break.
  • It’s smart (when eating in a restaurant) to leave the bread for what it is.
  • Listen very carefully, your tummy will say this only once: “you’re full” so stop eating.

how to get rid of that stuffed feeling:

  • Take a stroll. Stand up and join the smokers outside (even if you don’t smoke). A short walk helps to digest faster. Don’t lie down! Not good.
  • Drink green or peppermint tea. Drinking (no, not alcohol) is the best thing to do when feeling bloated. This ensures that built up gas is carried off. Sorry, not very charming, but we’re being honest here.
  • Massage the stomach a little using circular movements, your bowels will like that a massage relieves and a speeds up the need for the toilet.
  • Oh and don’t feel guilty about maybe eating too much. Not a problem. – Have a balance day the next day. No question about that is there?
