amayzine talks to DOUTZEN

You couldn’t have missed it, I practically screamed it from the rooftops: last Saturday I had the privilege of interviewing Doutzen Kroes. As you know Doutzen is the face of Samsung and this weekend they launched the new S6, with the famous Paris Fashion Week as a witness. Before this grand spectacle, which I discussed here quite thoroughly, I was allowed to sit opposite of Doutzen and ask her a few questions. This is how it went.

The festivities took place in Hotel George V, one of the most beautiful and expensive hotels in the city. A long double row of fans has already formed on the sidewalk as I arrive (for me of course, no surprise there) and the lobby was a coming and going of wealthy dressed up women following their bellhops who were carrying their shopping bags. There I was legs shaking, waiting to be summoned. It was a feast for the eye watching the lobby, the indoor garden, the hotel bar while listening to the buzz of fascinating people leaning over their expensive drinks and bites, I could sit here for hours.

“Sometimes I find myself wanting to walk over to someone to say hello only to realize that, in real life, we don’t even know each other.”

But I am here for Doutzen. She’s sitting a lovely room, with her agent Sarah Keller and Mo Karadag at her side, the holy trinity. Doutzen is tall, thin, refined and subtle, like I said, I felt like an amorous flapper. We take our places at a table when Mo runs his hands through her gorgeous hair, making it look even more gorgeous. We follow every pic of her on Instagram so sitting here beside her feels kind of familiar, Doutzen understands this, “ Sometimes I find myself wanting to walk over to someone to say hello only to realize that, in real life, we don’t even know each other.”

Are you and your phone really unseparable?

“Yes. I have a love-hate relationship with my phone. I can’t do without it and I’m truly grateful for it being so easy for me to contact people, but I constantly find it in my hand. Even when having dinner of going out, it’s always beside you. I do try to put it away when I’m with the children, but then, if you want to take a picture you have to get it out again.

You share a lot Je on social media. Are there limitations? is anything out of bounds?

“I find that rather difficult. I try to combine my work and my private life. In the beginning Sunnery and I agreed not to share anything personal at all, but sometimes you’re just so proud, you want to share it with others. I do think my fan appreciate this small peek into our private lives.”

why is it so important nowadays for models to be active on social media?

“It is mostly important to the companies. Every customer asks for it. In every contract I include a separate section for social media, that I do certain updates for the product for example. They also look at how popular you are. That is, evidently, very important to them. On the other hand I have to be careful what I post. Before doing so I run my thoughts past a few people in my head; my mother, agent, accountant, customers – everyone has to able to like it. If I think it might hurt someone I won’t post it.” .”

honestly, how often do you check your Instagram?

“It depends. When I’m sitting in hair and make-up on the job I tend to get bored and I find myself on Instagram a lot. And after I put out a post of course. But there are days I don’t look at all.”

which photo delivered the most likes?

“I think it was my pregnancy photo. I believe I got over 200.000 likes.”

Who do you like to follow?

“Actually my colleagues, just to see what they are up to, my sister, naturally, but I also follow Rihanna, she’s so provocative, I like that in her. She does things I would never dare to do.”

you must know this. How do you make the best selfie?

“Well I think there are girls out there who do much better than me haha. But I think from above, this is the best angle for my face. You know what’s fun, the new Samsung has a special selfie button. It has a button on the back to make selfies super easy and fail proof.”

YOU ARE AWAY FROM HOME A LOT AND YOUR PHONE IS the PERFECT WAY TO STAY IN TOUCH, I’M CURIOUS, are you in MANY APP GROUPS?

“Since recently I am , yes. I form a group with Sunnery and my mother-in-law and another with my friends. It’s wonderful way to keep in sync with what everyone is doing.”

and finally, will you tell me about the last app you received?

“I think it was with Sarah [Doutzen’s agent] that I landed safely in Paris. And one from Sunnery telling me everything was fine with the children. Those are the best ones.”
