This will keep a basil plant alive
When I was away for a week for the New York Fashion Week, I had a lovely nanny for my basil plant. That sitter also had a roommate, so between the two of them, surely they could have kept that plant alive. What do you think? You guessed it. Stone dead. Um, yeah, thanks. It was a really nice little plant, you know the type that you see at the grocery store and every time think again: how can such a thing be so incredibly cheap? But quite simply the answer is: because he is not going to live for more than 12 hours. But people, it is really up to you. Love is the most important. You have to give them lots of love and follow these tips. Babysitters, are you reading this too? This will help to keep that cute little plant alive.
Look, if you want to be a real plant pro, the first thing to do is to repot your your new little friend. Giving him some fresh soil and more room to spread his roots will make it much easier for you to take care of him. But I’m kind of guessing that you don’t ever repot them do you? And you just leave him in the same container that you bought him in.
Plants love sun on their heads. It is a must. So place your pot on the windowsill and let him soak up all that lovely sunshine.
Place the pot in a shallow tray. You can then pour the water in the tray. Most pots have holes in the bottom and this allows the plant roots to suck up the water from underneath.
Always give lukewarm water. So neither cold nor hot.
You should be a little careful when picking off the leaves you will use. Be kind to your little plant.
Withered leaves probably means thirst. Don’t panic. Just cut the thirsty leaves off with scissors and give a little extra drop of water. He’ll come good again in no time.
Buy some fresh burrata cheese, deli meats, tomatoes and a really good olive oil. Everything on a plate with your own home grown basil. Easy and so yum. Winning I say!
