may-britt’s cinderella story

I have somehow managed to turn finding a dress to wear for an event last minute into some sort of tradition, however this time around, I had the perfect aqua blue dress waiting to be worn three days prior to the event I would be attending. Our event to be precise. Amayzine’s second birthday deserved a pretty dress.

So the dress was taken care of but the shoes, that was an entire different story. I had my mind set on a blue pair of Jimmy Choo’s but then a colleague of mine reminded me of how painful they even are sitting down. So when you’re hosting a party that consists of a lot of standing and chit chatting, it didn’t seem like smartest option.

And so I called my good friend Jan-Pieter from one of the chicest shoe stores in the Netherlands. I checked out their site to see if they had any shoes in my size and I had my eyes set on two pairs of Gucci’s that were screaming my name, and I planned to pick them up with a cab (very decadent – I know) on my way to getting my hair and make up done.

‘Those shoes had to be mine.’

On our way to the store we passed by Gucci and I couldn’t help but quickly have a look inside their boutique. I have a Gucci discount card and thought maybe I’d bump into a pair of heels that weren’t too over the top so that I’d wear them more often rather than labeling them as just my ‘party shoes.’ And guess what? They did. They were a dark shade of red and had two cute straps that were secured with a button. Apparently my discard card was no longer working (now that Alessandro Michele leads the pack, they’ve become very specific about who their preferred VIPS are) but nonetheless, those shoes had to be mine.

So I called the initial store I was heading to, to confess that I had had a show affair with another store and off the hair and makeup I went. I decided to break in my new babies but what happened next had me at a loss of words. As soon as I set foot outside of M.A.C Cosmetics, one of the straps snapped. After having barely walked 7 meters. I called Gucci right away but they didn’t have any more of this pair in my size.

You might want to know that by now it was 4 PM and our guests would be arriving in an hour. In the cab I gave Jan-Pieter another call. He HAD to hemp me. “I’m going to be driving by your store so if you could throw in both pairs of heels I had set my sights on through the window then I’ll chose a pair and pay you tomorrow.” He said it would be absolutely no problem and from then on I spent the entire evening strutting around in the prettiest pair of aqua blue Gucci pumps with their logo on the toe end. And they were perfectly comfortable might I add.

The owners of the store dropped by our party in the evening and couldn’t help but chuckle at my show adventure. That’s what you get when you cheat on us they said. And that they loved the shoes on me too. When I waved them goodbye at the end of the evening I overheard them say: “Did you already tell her that she gets to keep those shoes as a present?”

And there you have it. Investing in a good pair of designer shoes is always a good idea. Before you know it, they might be gifted to you.
