May’s summer fashion wish list

It’s always a bit of a paradoxical dilemma. By the time it really becomes really real summer (really real? Yes, really real!), all the summer dresses are hanging in the window already on sale. Pointless for those with deeper pockets but for the rest of us this is extra nice because now is the time to stock up. I ‘ll be going for these essentials that breathe summer 2015.

Comfort and femininity, now that is the look I love. The sandal is of course the height of summer, but considering I’m only 1 meter 3 it is not my ideal shoe for let’s say, a party. Enter; the block wedge sandal: you are lifted into the air, feeling super comfortable. You can easily hang out an hour longer in these babies.

Time to celebrate! Flared jeans are back! They sit nice and high around the waist (so you no longer have that problem with the very uncharming, construction workers, backwards-cleavage) and they make your legs look super long. With a simple, pretty blouse, block heel or pumps underneath and you’re done. Now you need to add these to your summer collection because: A, I think you should buy at least two things each season that are outside your comfort zone and B, Small flowers are ‘a thing’ and if it is up to me, the flowered flares are in the bag. Wear a white or ecru blouse on top and you have nothing more to do.

Such a classy dress that makes you immediately think of a picnic in the hills of Wales. But the sight of any hip girl sitting cosy on a picnic blanket with beautiful dress will make you want to steal her clothes. The tea dress is a kind of dress slash shirt with a loose and plunging neckline made of a supple fabric that comes to your knees. You can give it some character by adding a belt and a long pendant around your neck gives a little extra to frame to your décolleté. Make sure it has a long sleeve so it won’t be too sexy. Just slip on a comfortable sandal. Remember; heels and hills remain a tricky combination.

It is such nonsense that you don’t need a jacket in the summer. It might not always be necessary, but outfit wise it is nevertheless always elegant to make an entrance with a jacket. I find a long sleeveless model to be ideal. On a hot day you wear it over your summer outfit (eg. a culotte with a sleeveless top) and as it turns cool, you put a sweater with long sleeves underneath. Please note; a T-shirt underneath looks a bit silly. Do avoid that.

Last week one of our editors went to see Bill Cunningham and after she lay awake for two nights fretting over the perfect suit, she opted for a white lace skirt. “White is really becoming a thing in fashion,” Bill said. And because Bill is a definer of fashion and because I find white lace to be simply delightful, it won’t be long until a little white number from Net-A-Porter.com will be finding its way into my basket.
