Modern relationships
There was a time when building a relationship went in this order: first date, in love, going steady, living together, engaged, marriage, babies. Nowadays it still might be like this but a few steps have been added that mean just as much as the first ‘ I love you’. Now strange computers have an important roll in a relationship considering we are sitting behind a screen most of the day. Modern relationship steps are as followed:
from Tinder to Facebook to Whatsapp
If you met on Tinder the first thing you need to do is find each other on Facebook and carry on where you left off. Hopefully resulting in a friend request. After that you move on to a more efficient medium, exchange numbers and get that flirt game going on Whatsapp.
Favorites
After chatting comes phoning each other (for me anyway, unlike others I love talking on the phone). After a little while you tire of looking up his number all the time so you place him in your favorites. Right there between your friends and family.
liking photos
This is a big thing. When do you start liking each other’s photos on Facebook and Instagram? Liking means you like the person and the picture. Besides others see this too. This is the run up to the biggest step: a joint Facebook account. Hold on we’re not there yet.
adding each other’s friends
The dates are piling up and you arrive at the stage of meeting each other’s friends. An important stage; someone with stupid friends can be stupid and the other way around. If his friends don’t like you this will give you a hard time. Let’s assume everything goes smoothly en you see more and more of his friends. Once again you come at the stage of adding them to your friends on Facebook. I always appreciated it if my love showed an interest in my friends and added them to his account. One big happy family.
Wi-fi
“Home is where the Wi-Fi connects automatically”, you come to a point where your phone bill can’t handle 3G anymore when you’re at his place. And then he gives you the Wi-Fi-code and he gets yours. It’s the same as having each other’s house keys.
Whatsapp-groups
With his friends, your friends, with everyone. Being in a Whatsapp group together is being close, the ultimate high being the family group. Most families have a Whatsapp group that don’t allow in-laws but not every family is like that. Jet was added to her boyfriend’s family app a while ago and that’s really something.
the photo
Nobody changes their status on Facebook anymore because ‘love ussies’ are the new relationship update. This requires some serious thinking. Because when is the right time to enlighten the digital world with an “ I’m with him”? A certain editor at Amayzine after weeks of doubt finally took this first step and posted a photo of herself and her boyfriend on Facebook. : Like that SHIT”, she commanded us and of course we did. That first photo of you as a pair is a real achievement. Not even an engagement ring can compete with that.
