Arts and crafts for mother’s day

I love fidgeting around in my hobby room (the DIY shed according to Liesbeth) and making pretty things. So if someone can’t find me that’s where I am. I have always loved being creative although I do wonder if mothers are genuinely pleased with painted toilet role vases or handmade cookbooks held together by a piece of string and still wet from the paint. But we’ve all gotten a little older and wiser and more creative (ahum). And if we’re really upfront we must admit we still love a little DIY once in a while. I took a look on Pinterest for some inspiration. Mothers love a handmade present made with a little love. A bunch of flowers from a store just doesn’t say as much. So get cracking and enjoy!!

the corkboard

Mothers love keeping lists. And those magnetic things you stick on the fridge are just plain ugly. These are simple cork coasters. Join them together at the back in any shape or form. Add some pins and maybe stick on some pictures (mothers love old photographs and memories) to make a good impression..

Labels

I attach a label to every gift I give. It looks so lovely it doesn’t really matter what’s inside. Use stamps for the name and use pretty ribbons or cute tape; absolutely nothing can go wrong.

 iou’s

Make an IOU to cook her dinner or for an appointment at the beauty salon she always on about. The homemade touch makes them special. She’ll probably lose them or forget about them but it’s the thought that counts.

Flower pot

Of course the garden center is filled with mother’s day ready made gifts but you can make one yourself. It may take a little time but it’s fun to do. A tub of water, two bottles of nail polish and a stir stick is all you need. Dip in the pot to create a cool effect.

stamps

You can use potatoes to make stamps (knife, potato cookie cutter and off you go) Dip the stamps in the paint and print on paper or fabric.

flower tubes

This is so chill. You can make vases out of copper tubes. Drill a hole (in the top or the water won’t stay in) and pull a piece of string through it. Voila. More creative? Dip it in paint.

coasters

It brings me straight back to elementary school. That’s probably where you first made them. But for these you have to get behind your computer to find the perfect font and write your favorite message. Print and cover in plastic. A couple of paint splatters brighten them up.

vases

Very very easy. Buy some little white vases spray them with spray glue and use confetti or sprinkles. Put a flower in and ready.

tea cup candle

I have two interns that loved this gift. You buy a nostalgic teacup at a second hand store and maybe even some old candles. You melt them. Pout the wax into the cup let it cool and you have a new candle. Hardly costs a thing and mommy will be very happy.
