Conversation Piece Fashion

My shoes determine my look of the day. How that works? It’s easy; first I check my schedule to see what kind of day it is then I consider which shoes suit my day. The rest of my outfit comes together naturally to fit the shoes. Now everyone that reads my articles know that comfort doesn’t have my priority when it comes to shoes, whatever the trend. I know the bath slipper in all its moderations is very en vogue but i just can’t get used to them.

I know the bath slipper in all its moderations is very en vogue but I just can’t get used to them.

Same goes for the plateaus that I associate with orthopedic walkers, putting them in the same category as all Dr. Scholl variations. Brrrrr! Wearability and convenience; fine, but I assure you there are other ways to go this season. Like so:

The gladiator sandal

Flat and open leatherwork. The higher the better. Without question you wear the higher models with short skirts or shorts. The lower version accommodates pants or jeans that show the ankles.

The block heel

Yep. They’re back. Thanks to the seventies. And to be completely frank: they’re much easier to walk on than pumps or stilettoes. Wear them with flared trousers or a mid-length skirt.

The slipper

The slipper comes in all shapes and sizes. With heels or flat but always with an open heel. The flat version works well with a tunic or other hippy/boho- outfit. Slippers with a high heel go best with narrow trousers or a simple straight dress.

The sneaker

We can’t even remember being without and this season we see low models in white or multicolored editions, but also the slipper variation. In combination with a 2015 style skirt the sneaker is totally acceptable.

The flat shoe with the pointy nose

Of course the ballerina remains the classic, but this variation is a tad more elegant.  Think Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and wear it with a LBD.

Wedged plateau

Not my favorite but they’re hot this summer. The stumbly way of walking is something i personally find a little appalling but on the other hand they do give my 1.64 meter posture a reasonable amount of height.

The espadrille

This variation with a wedge heel or high soles come in fantasy editions, with applications, bicolor or cute stripes. Ideal for the beach and hot summer days due  to the light material. You can combine all the styles in different ways.

Fringes

Usually the fringe is suède and you see them as a decoration around the ankle (on high or low sandals). The inspiration is of course the bohemian look but rock-chic also offers combination possibilities.
