Picture this: New York, Fashion Week, it’s icy cold and it’s snowing. In front of the Lincoln Centre, Spring Studios and other cool locations (usually somewhere near a pier); fashion editors, bloggers and wannabes parade about. You know the type; vainglorious (think Paris Hilton), fighting to get through the bitter cold while flashing herself at streetstyle spotters and always ready for a pic. Any idea how you can spot a true fashionista? Well…they don’t give in and they don’t do concessions neither for comfort or protection.

Even when at risk of getting a frostbite, she will never ever wear hosiery. I – think Kate Middleton- would very much like to take advantage of this moment to hold a plea for the pantyhose. A beautiful pair of sheer transparent pantyhose,  good brand,  good quality and good color can work miracles. It all depends on how you wear them. Sheer skin tone nylons look super chic with a little black dress.

Other good reasons for wearing pantyhose:

Transparent nylons are the foundation for your legs.

Maybe not unimportant; men find nylons attractive.

Cellulite and other mishaps stay concealed.

For official occasions (think wedding, funeral etc…) wearing nylons is considered an obligation.

Make sure to always have a pair of skin tone nylons in your lingerie drawer. These always come in handy when the dress code is somewhat official. I myself think transparent black is just that little bit sexier. It’s up to you…

Do you wear nylons in peep-toed shoes?

No, unless you’re a ballroom dancer it’s a definite no-go. I know there are women out there who don’t think this is an issue but personally, I would prefer to sun-spray my wintery legs.

Black tights and coloured shoes

Another issue. Never do this unless, for some reason, you want to look like Minnie Mouse. The other way around is not a problem; coloured tights and black shoes are ok.

Lace- or fishnet stockings

I would say: never wear these to work, unless you need to wear them professionally. But otherwise lace stockings can be very sexy. Especially if you combine these with a basic dress. Funnily enough fishnet stockings are accepted at the office as long as the holes aren’t to big.

 Fantasy tights

Now and then they pop up somewhere, depending on the fashion trend. There’s a good chance you will run into some fine stripes or floral hosiery influenced by the sixties and seventies. Fine, but I do advise you to take it easy on the leg decoration if you’re above the age of twenty-five (ok thirty).
