Why shopping online is hell

Everyone in our editorial team is a fanatic online shopper. Jet starts her day browsing The Outnet and I am more up to date on Net-a-porter  than on my checking account ( I suspect there’s a connection). But sometimes, well quite often really, online shopping is hell. Especially during the sale, when it can get pretty feisty (certainly if Valentino boots are on the line). It’s not like we’re going to stop, but sometimes you just have to get things off your chest.

when the delivery costs are sky high

The perfect dress for only 50 (euro’s, dollars, whatever) but then delivery costs add another 30 to the bill. This is often the case for international orders, and feels like you’re being cheated. Shipments from outside your continent can also be liable for duty tax, this is the moment you’ll really feel pulled when that invoice hits you.

when you don’t know your size

There are all kinds of cute size charts but none are very clear. Once I spent hours fitting my measuring tape but in spite of my hard work the ordered item didn’t fit. Then there’s the problem of international sizing; every country does it differently. So it requires some kind of algebra formula to solve. I don’t know about you, but I’m not exactly a Math’s buff.

when they don’t have your size

When you finally do figure out your size and are familiar with the brand they end op having all sizes in stock; except yours of course

when the item you bought comes on sale the next day

After weighing all the options you finally press the buy button, spending your last pennies on a pair of shoes, to find out, horror, the next day they are online with 50% discount. Not Cool.

when your dream piece never hits the sale

This one might be even worse. Everything is on sale except the item you have been gawking over for weeks. The world is so unfair.

when you order a red dress and it’s really orange  (or vice versa)

It has happened to me. Thinking I had ordered a pair of adorable bright red pumps, on delivery I was surprised by a bright orange pair. I love oranges but uhm not on my feet.

when you need an extra code for your credit card

This happened with the Valentino boots. Everything was in the bag until the last window popped up asking me for the extra security code of my credit card, which I had never heard of. Boy did that stress me out.

when you don’t know the delivery date

I hate this. You receive a link that allows you to follow your order but it doesn’t work or something else awkward happens. Every time the bell rings you hop up only to land back on the sofa in disappointment.

when it doesn’t fit

The biggest frustration of all. You have waited ages for your item and when it finally arrives it doesn’t fit right or at all. I once ordered a gorgeous pair of shoes that were just that bit to tight. Hell would freeze over before I sent those back. I had waited so long fore them I would just have to put up with the suffering.
