5 reasons
to go see a dermatologist
Some things become better with age; good wine and leather jackets. Other things a little less so; such as your skin. The need to care for your skin and the ‘how to’ tips I’ve shared with you here and here. And with the right creams there is a lot that can be prevented or controlled. However there are a few little issues where it is perhaps best to visit a dermatologist, just to make sure that your skin is not being unnecessarily or hastily damaged.
Dark spots
Dark spots are more commonly found on older skin. They can look like a freckle but have a greyish-brown color. They are often found on the cheeks, nose, under the eyes, above the lip and on the hands. It has to do with pigmentation and is often associated with aging because the spots need time to develop. A dermatologist can help to lighten the spots with light and laser treatments, giving you a flawless complexion once again.
sunburn
Sunburn is never good. The sun has a way of making you look 10 years older than you really are, it gives you wrinkles, can burn away at tissue from the inside, but it can also be much worse. If the skin is severely burnt by the sun (blisters, swollen skin or open sores), then a visit to a dermatologist is advised. A treatment of infrared light therapy can help to reduce the inflammation. This will not reverse the aging effect and wrinkles will not be lasered away, but in the short term it will certainly help to make the burn feel less painful and less permanent.
sagging skin
There are plenty of top quality skin products on the market that help to keep your skin firm, but sometimes a cream is not enough to solve everything. There are treatments with radio frequency that help to make the skin tighter and can give it more lift. The radio frequency creates waves which stimulate the production of collagen. This procedure is not just great for the face and body, but can also be nice for the chest, chin and neck.
acne Scars
Did you suffer from the dreaded teenage attack of the zits or acne? Yes. Then you are probably still seeing the tell tale signs on your skin to this day. The acne is now gone, but you are left with the scars that are yet to disappear. A chemical peel is one of the options that a dermatologist may offer you. It will help to remove the redness and dark flecks left from scaring. Laser treatment is another option, but this can take a little longer, however it will still yield results. Say hello to smooth, fresh skin where the signs of puberty blues are nowhere in sight!
surgical scars
Surgery in itself is already a horrible experience, and then to top it off you are left with scars as a reminder. A dermatologist can prescribe the necessary creams that hopefully dissolve the scars. Make the appointment with the dermatologist as soon as the surgery wound has heeled, otherwise the scar has already nestled itself into the skin and then the heavy artillery might have to be brought out.
