you so did not know this

silicon packets can really come in handy

Have you ever noticed? You just ordered something on Net-a-Porter.com, you bought a new pair of shoes or you receive a package filled with beauty products and always find one or two of those tiny silicon packets that you probably bin (very ungrateful) right away. Don’t. This Martha Stewart will tell you why.

perfect for smelly shoes

Of course you don’t have sweaty feet. But just in case the leather of your shoes is suffering from a fever due to the weather, and have become a little moist, put one of those little sachets in the toe. It absorbs moisture and any additional odors. Pardon me, I meant to say: any possible additional odors.

it’s in the bag

It’s time to check out and you take a moment to brush your teeth before leaving your hotel room. That means a wet toothbrush in your beauty bag, not nice. Pop in one of our little friends and it will absorb up to four times it’s own weight. Problem solved.

silver lining

Okay, if you are the proud owner of beautiful silver tableware you don’t stash it away in a plastic bag. But if you want to keep your silver, uuhm, silver you have to keep it as dry and airtight as possible. You know those decorative try plates you only use occasionally? Keep them in a plastic bag and add a little silicon packet.

stuffy old books

Are you familiar with the stuffy smell often related to old housing? That’s humidity. The moisture is usually absorbed in old books, which is how the odor spreads. You know it’s coming, don’t you; yep, just hide a few of those little bags behind your books and you’re good as gold.

What else, you ask? Well, they extend the life of razors (they keep the blades from rusting), they prevent your wet bikini from causing bad odors in your sports bag and they keep your make-up bag al fresh and crispy, even in the case of a leaky perfume bottle. Oh, and if you’re keen on drying flowers, guess what comes in handy? Put the flowers in a vase without water and add a few silicon bags to excel the drying process.

In summary, don’t throw them out but use those little critters.

Good luck, love Martha.
