5 Reasons to take off your makeup at night

Coco wrote about going to bed beautiful. I get that because I always want to look my best when I’m with my man-person. Only this doesn’t mean hiding behind layers of foundation and mascara and other cover-ups. Because if you believe you’ll wake up just as pretty as you went to bed you’re in for a nasty surprise.

Yet a numerous amount of women really believe they’re on the right track following the ritual stated above. More than half of the make-up wearing female population goes to bed without removing their make-up at least once a week. Is it laziness? Do they do it for the man? I don’t know I just think it’s plain stupid.

We may drink healthy smoothies every day and hang out in the gym to look our best but if you’re too lazy to wipe a wade of cotton across your face, those wrinkles and zits are bound to show up. 32% of the women clean their face the next morning and 82% has a complete cleansing ritual that lasts two minutes.  Only 33% of all women clean their faces two times a day. That’s enough numbers and research for now, let me just tell you why you shouldn’t be wearing make-up at night and why you should reach for that wipe or cotton pad.

One night of sleeping with make-up on equals 7 days of aging. Meaning you’re sleeping yourself older. At least that’s what a British researcher is telling us. I can’t tell you if this is true but at the age of 29 and already suffering from a wrinkly forehead I cringe at the thought of it and every evening I loyally pull out the cotton.

You can smudge and plaster all night long but if you already have a layer of something on your skin there’s really no point. A painter paints on a blank canvas and that’s how it works with makeup and creams. They just won’t function otherwise. So it’s great all those Q10 creams with maintenance ingredients, but they can’t penetrate into the skin if it’s not clean.

Going to bed with mascara or eyeliner on your eyes won’t only leave marks on your forehead or cheeks it also causes eye irritation. You don’t blink much at night so the bacteria stays cooped up inside your eyes. Bloodshot eyes or even inflammation can become a new part of your life the next morning. Furthermore too much mascara creates lumps and those same lumps can break your lashes. I don’t think you want to wake up without your lashes do you?

Leaving your makeup on clogs your pores and you know what that means? Zits. You don’t want that. You want to prevent this. So clean up your act.

You wake up looking like the Grand Canyon and you can apply all the creams you want but those creases won’t just disappear.
