talk of the town

The 5 most talked about covers of 2015

December is December is December. December is the month of lists. So I would hereby like to introduce you to first list of the month; the most talked about magazine covers of 2015. And yes, I’ve got more where this came from.

6. here’s another

Gisele Bündchen made it very clear that her career as a model is no longer her biggest priority. Call it retirement if you will. She walked her final runway show during the Sâo Paolo Fashion Week and a little while later graced the jubilee issue of Vogue Brasil. To once again prove to all us ‘regular folk’ that her decision to retire has nothing to do with her physical appearance, she decided to get suited up for another cover shoot with photographer duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

5. Call me caitlyn

Six months ago Caitlyn was still good old Bruce who would occasionally walk around in a skirt, but then suddenly there she was, suited up in a bathing suit on the cover of Vanity Fair. Some recognition for Caitlyn and a new sales record for Vanity Fair because they beat their previous record with Johnny Depp from four and a half years ago and sold more than 500.000 copies.

4. another transgender

Although Loiza Lamers won the Dutch edition of Top Model based on her beauty and character, she made history by being the very first transgender model to win the show. One of her prizes was the cover of our very own Amayzine magazine.

3. the hadid sisters

Double Trouble. Gigi and Bella were remarkably sexy for the cover of V Magazine. This is one for in the books.

2. Shocking

If you’ve been assaulted by Bill Cosby then your life has been effected in more than one way. The assault alone is already horrendous but imagine having to try and send the nation’s sweetheart to court. It’s not going to work on your own. Some people seem so intangible. Or almost. Luckily we’ve got a thing called justice and all’s well ends “well.” This cover consisted of all the women who had been sexually assaulted by Bill Cosby. And the empty chair was symbolic for all those who are too frightened to come forth about what their experiences.

1. Viva Vanessa

In the year that ex-hubby Johnny Depp made the headlines for handing out an award completely hammered (luckily he still became the face of Dior Homme), Vanessa showed us her sixteen year old physique. Wait who am I kidding? That of a six year old. For the French Vogue Vanessa let herself be photographed in three different ways by (there they are again) Inez and Vinoodh and out of all the shots, the bare bottomed cover made the most headlines. My thoughts about her cover? Let’s just say I hope Vanessa fills up her plate more than once at her Christmas dinner table this year. Thank you.
