The avocado test
“Don’t you always write about avocado’s?” someone recently asked me. And yes, I do write about avo’s every now and then but it’s been a while so I figured it was time to bring up my favorite fruit (yes it’s a fruit) again. Today’s topic: when do you know your avocado is ripe? Because there is nothing more annoying than slicing your avo and realizing it’s just not that great. How to avoid it:
Softly squeeze the avocado. Is it hard as a rock? Let it ripe for a little while longer. (Pretty logical.)
The avocado has to be soft but not overly soft because if it is over-ripe, it’ll probably be brown on the inside and that won’t taste too good. Easy trick to see if it’s ripe or not:
Get rid of the avocado’s pit. Depending on the color of the hole, you’ll see whether your avocado is ripe or not.
Perfect ripe:
The avocado will have a light color; greenish yellow.
Over ripe:
The avocado has a dark brown color.
