BAKING-TECHNIQUE

– for a flawless skin –

There’s a new trend in makeup land with which you can obtain flawless skin, masking every spot and wrinkle in sight. I bet we continuously hear the words ‘perfect skin’ ringing in our ears. So bring it on…

Baking has been the trend for some time, Kim Kardashian is well-known for this powdering technique. It’s also commonly used by drag queens. Now I hear you thinking: where is this going? How will this ever get you a flawless face? Stay with me people. Stay with me. The idea of baking is the same as making a cupcake in the oven. You have mixed and used the basic ingredients and the oven heats it all up so they will keep for a couple of days and make it just that bit tastier.

Well, what is it? You could see baking as the finishing touches of your makeup. First you courteously apply the foundation followed by other liquids and then you apply powder, and I really mean lots of powder, transparent powder. After about ten minutes, leaving the heat of your skin to bond with the powder, you use a large brush to get rid of all the excess powder. The remaining powder has been fixated and will keep everything perfectly in place. It’s commonly used to mask dark circles under the eyes and to hide wrinkles. Look at this sentence again. It sounds difficult. I get that. So for you, a special ‘HOW TO’: 5 steps to creating a perfect flawless face.

Wink

Hydrate the skin under your eyes thoroughly. The skin there is very thin so you easily spot lines, wrinkles or chapped spots. You don’t want that of course.

Concealer in square

Apply a really thick layer of concealer. Choose one with a thick covering consistency. If you hydrate well beforehand you will be able to apply the concealer smoothly, wiping away all those dark spots from under your eyes.

Normally a hefty conceals scares everyone off, but if you did good on the hydrating it will create a beautiful level base.

Use more

Just when you’re thinking: this is really a shitload of concealer, you add more. You’re allowed to use more. A second layer fixates the first one. You can use a sponge to blend the layers together, making it into one layer while keeping it smooth. Yep. Go ahead. Just do it.

Transparant powder

Here we go. Use a powder brush to apply the transparent powder. Apply a thick layer over the concealer to secure the base.

Bake it!

After a few minutes take the sponge and carefully dip it in setting spray. After that dip it in the transparent powder and powder the spots with this mixture where you’ve applied concealer. Dab it nicely onto the skin and leave to set for 10-15 minutes.

Take it away

Get out your large powder brush and start sweeping. One half will be fixated and the other half you wipe away.

I understand it might be a bit difficult. I’m still in the tryout phase. Thank goodness we have some video support from makeup artist Heidi Hamoud who baked her face to make this video for us.  Watch and learn.
