Why we love gel polish
We’ve all heard of gel polish but is it really as good as they say? Well we’ve done the test and found that gel polish certainly has it’s advantages.
Two weeks of enjoyment
Gel polish stays put on a healthy nail for up to two weeks. So no fiddling with touch ups in the car or at your desk (sorry ladies, you need to find another means of work procrastination). Simply fourteen days of good looking nails. Yay.
Fast drying
My lack of patience can sometimes get the better of me. If I don’t get my glass of wine within five minutes, I can get a tad stroppy. Potentially a little OTT, I know, but hey. For me to single handedly do my nails is sometimes impossible. Of course I can get that one thing out of my bag without bumping my nails. Ha! Think again. But with gel polish a UV-lamp is used and so your nails are dry within no time.
Not Damaging
It’s great to have glossy painted nails, but naturally we still want to be kind to them so that they are damaged as little as possible. One of the major advantages of gel polish is that the nail bed itself does not have to be completely filed down (which is the case with acrylic nails). The nail has to be cleaned very well, but the top layer remains intact. A manicure in advance is needed, but that only makes your pretty nails even happier.
Even at home
Of course not everyone has the time to go to a salon. But that’s okay, because now there are gel polish kits for home. This Essence home kit comes with a lamp and can be found in most pharmacies. Sally Hansen Miracle Gel does not even need a lamp. Self drying, comes in over 45 shades, and if you expose your nails to sunlight, they become even harder. Handy right!
