Hallo hair!

– the four sizzling trends in hair color –

Last month I colored my hair for the very first time. I wanted a few blonde highlights but ended up with a whole new look that was aimed at the coupe worn by Alexa Chung. Very cool. Well, until the sun started turning my brunette whisks into reddish strands. Last week a colleague (you know who you are)called me a little red kettle. Definitely time to visit the hair salon. At which point I asked myself; what are the current trends? I did some research and here are the results.

This summer there a two shades of blonde. The cool grey blonde and ash blond have to make way for warm blonde and baby blonde. For Baby blonde you have to think that perfect blonde you see on children. Warm blonde is an assembly of different shades of blonde combined keeping the tone soft (well away from red) and not too full of color.

Colored hair, I’m talking pink, purple and blue, is fine but keep it light, really pastel. The kind you don’t see on blonde hair but that gives it a colorful glow.

The ombre look is very passé and has to make way for balayage. Sounds weird but it’s sort of a layering of brown tints that turn out a bit darker. Ombre gives the bottom half of hair a different color while balayage is melted artistically throughout the hair. The colors: mahogany, chocolate, honey, and other warm tints are (custom) mixed by the hairdresser creating subtle transitions.

Ecaille, I think sounds very exciting, is a French word for tortoiseshell. I like turtles but to apply this to my hair sounds confusing. Still this is apparently a really awesome trend that sits between ombre and Balayage. With ombre the colors are at the bottom, balayage has an artistic flow and ecaille is a natural flow from top to bottom.
