The scent of a man

When I’m at home I like to walk around in a shirt worn by my man of the house and when he comes home from the gym I take a few sneaky whiffs of his sweat-soaked shirt. Sometimes I concern myself a little with my strange habits, but I’m happy to know that everything has a reason. Truly happy.

pheromones

No matter how foul smelling I find myself after exercising, I just can’t help but enjoy the smell of fresh sweat on my boyfriend. Crazy huh? This is because the sweat glands release hormones called ‘pheromones’. A kind of temptation substance that immediately gives a signal to the brain. It goes straight to the “amygdaloid” to be exact. This is an almond-shaped portion of the brain which, in this case, matches information with positive and emotional responses. Finding a certain smell delicious can take you to a state of excitement. The same goes for men with lots of testosterone (a real caveman, you know what I mean), they also release more pheromones.

But it goes beyond just excitement. If we find the smell of each other delicious, this can potentially be the deciding factor whether we start a relationship or not. It is said that we choose our partners via a subconscious selection process determining if they will make for a suitable mummy or daddy.

Symmetry

Also something crazily ingenious. Scientists have shown that when a man is symmetrical, he emits an odor that is attractive to women. In a study from an American anthropologist women were asked to smell T-shirts of different men. It turned out that the men with a more symmetrical face had a smell that was much more attractive to women. I took it upon myself to do the test with my own partner and damn, that boy has two very identical halves.

Isn’t Mother Nature just the funniest little woman huh?
