THE SHOW THAT WAS ALEXANDER WANG: IN 8 FUN FACTS

Last Saturday night one of the most important shows of New York Fashion Week took place. Fashion wise there are a ton of shows that are defining, but Alexander Wang is the show that really separates the men from the boys.

Tickets to this show are highly exclusive but since I know people who know people I managed to secure myself a seat. It might have been on the very last row, but I honestly couldn’t care less. Here are a few fun facts that’ll make you feel like you were there right beside me.

1.   everything for alexander the great

Last year Wang pulled off getting the entire finicky fashion posse over to Brooklyn. It just so happens that Brooklyn is the new black here in New York, yet it still took guests an hour or two of traffic mayhem to get to the venue. Just to give you a slight indication of how great Alexander is.

2.     Celebrity gathering

From the back row I watched a blonde lady scurry her way to a front row seat. “Isn’t that…?” “You mean G.A.G.A.?” my fashion friend seated to the right of me said before a heard of photog’s bound her. “I think so. Someone important at least.” At the after party I spotted Lady Gaga (cause it was indeed her) dancing and prancing around. Apparently she was even seen smoking a cig during the show. I like her.

Apart from Lady Gaga, Kim and Kanye were evidently also a part of the crowd. And Mary J. Blige. And Bella Hadid. And Kylie Jenner. And Nicki Minaj. Let’s just say you know you’ve made it in New York if you’ve got front row tickets to Alexander Wang. So I still have a couple more rows I need to slate.

3.    dutch girls

They’re back at it. The fresh new crop of Dutch splendor. The second girl to walk was Jamilla Hoogenboom, one of Micha Models’ new pearls who kicked off the last season with Céline. Another striking appearance was the eminently blonde Marjan Jonkman, sweet as Tupelo honey when you see her in person, but with a rock star allure when she struts down that runway.

4.     and then the outfits

Some of the previous Alexander Wang collections hadn’t quite knocked me off my feet, but this collection was beyond everything. The oversized bomber jackets, the tops with chained straps (which Lexi Boling showed during the opening walk), the fringes popping out from underneath sweaters, it was all infinitely new and cool. And I wonder if my cousin Sam also thinks that Binx Walton looked like Super Mario in her salopette…

5.     Men aboard

For the very first time Alexander Wang added a bit of male presence on the runway. And if it were up to me, he should make this a tradition.

6.     anna in the lead

If it was humanly possible for Claudia Schiffer and Brigitte Bardot to have a baby, then the result of it would be Anna Ewers. She closed off the show in a wrought leather black dress. Very sexy.

7.     Run, Alex, run

In honor of Wang’s 10 year anniversary, a recap video was shown on the lengthy projection screen as wide as the runway itself. This video was so well edited that any big Hollywood director would be glued to the seat of their chair. After the video ended, Alexander catapulted over the runway, soaring above the ground.

8.     and then the after party

Things got a little wild on the right side of the stage. There were four pole dancers and a bathtub filled with small Pommery champagne bottles, people were walking around with miniature burgers and baked shrimp. And Lady Gaga was flying off the handle. As was I by the way.
