HOW TO DO THE ROPE BRAID

The rope braid is actually a pretty ‘old-school’ hair style but one that has been embraced by none other than Beyoncé and the Kardashians. Plus New York Fashion Week has also indicated that this look has made a comeback since plenty of runways had models rocking this up-do. The Public School had braids tighter than tight and the models on the Donna Karan runway and Alice + Olivia also had their heads full of twirls. This is the trend you want to take part in, believe me.

We’re talking about circular braids. Think rope like. So nothing flat but one you can see from every angle. So it requires a bit of practice but I’ve jotted down the steps for you to help you rock the hottest hairstyle at your Chritsmas dinner table.

1. Part your ponytail into three different strands. Keep two in your left hand and one in your right.

2. Twist the strands in your right hand around your finger to the right. Then you have to do a quick trick to get all three strands into your right hand. Just make sure you’re holding on tight so it doesn’t unravel.
3. Next you’re going to take the one strand you twisted and hold onto it with your left hand, and then do the same thing you did before and have all three strands in your left hand. Get it?

4. Lastly, you’re going to twist the last strand too. Then you’re going to braid the three strands into one. Make sure to securely fasten it with a hair tie so you won’t have random plucks of hair sticking out. Hairspray is always a key player and works miracles.

Alright, so I understand if this all sounds a bit confusing so we’ve got a video for you featuring Toni & Guy hairstylist Sarah who shows all the steps from start to finish. Watch and learn.
