9 things you didn’t know about chanel no.5

If you look at the photo above you’ll see and advertisement so beautiful, I’ve been waiting weeks for it to appear on Amayzine. If Chanel exclusively ‘rents out’ your site for a campagne, you know it’s bound to become a beaut. Et voilà.

Although I have a bathroom cabinet filled with different perfumes (uncanny hoarder?) which makes it hard for me to pick one in the morning; Chanel No. 5 will always be my favorite. I’m secretly hoping that I’ll find some of their bath oils wrapped underneath the Christmas tree from my hubby this year, because I can’t think of anything more feminine and luxurious. Chanel No. 5 is the most famous perfume in the world, and has been for the past 100 years, but I bet there were a few things you didn’t know:

  1. Every thirty seconds a bottle of No. 5 is bought somewhere in the world.
  2. The Chanel No. 5 bottle top was inspired by Paris’ Place Vendôme symmetry.
  3. The most expensive perfume commercial goes to Chanel No. 5.  Starting Nicole Kidman and directed by Baz Luhrmann.
  4. Coco Chanel wanted a perfume that would smell like a woman rather than a bunch of flowers.
  5. It’s called number 5 because it was the fifth sample the perfumer let her smell.
  6. Since Coco is very superstitious, the perfume was launch on the fifth day of the fifth month. Five also happened to be her lucky number.
  7. Marilyn Monroe helped skyrocket the perfume’s revenue by saying: “What do I wear to bed? Why, Chanel No. 5, of course.”
  8. Chanel No. 5 was the very first perfume who used a man for the commercial. It was Brad Pitt. They received so many critical reactions but once again, the sales went through the roof.
  9. Chanel No. 5 also has and had many male fans, like Andy Warhol.
