THIS IS WHY YOU’RE NOT SLEEPING
Everyone has a bad night once in a while but if you’re having these on a regular basis it’s time to do something about it. For starters you have to look at what’s causing your sleeping troubles. American research has listed the five most common sleep wreckers and what you can do about it. Read and learn my friends. Read and learn.
Restless Legs Syndrome
This is a condition where your legs become restless when relaxing; lying in bed. There is an unpleasant tingling or itchy feeling and the urge to walk or move around. This makes it very hard to fall asleep.
Solution:
Take a hot bath. If you don’t have a bath you can use heat compresses on your legs so your muscles will relax.
sharing your bed with a pet
Hmmm. I always sleep with my cat and find it very cozy. Besides if I close the bedroom door she’ll just keep on meowing and scratching at the door, till I open it again. If I don’t she’ll keep me up all night. But hey, science says it’s not good for me.
Solution:
You have to train you cats and dogs and teach them that the bedroom is off limits. And stick to it. It helps to feed or walk them sooner. They will stick to their routine and you can hit the sack earlier.
a snoring partner
I know a couple that has been sleeping apart for 3 years because his snoring is so bad it keeps her up all night. They’re happily married but sleep in different rooms every night. Doesn’t sound like much fun to me. But then again not sleeping is a major hiccup.
Solution:
Snoring can have a medical cause so it’s always good to go and see a doctor about it. Until you know more, earplugs can get you a long way. For snorers: don’t sleep on your back, try to sleep on your side to reduce the chance of snoring.
Stress
This is the most commonly listed reason. Your head is so full of to-do lists that there is no chance of relaxing. Stress isn’t easy to solve and it will take you more than a day or two.
Solution:
Stop looking at the clock. You’ll just panic and get all worked up about being awake. Don’t just lie there either. Get up and drink some warm milk (not coffee) and just stare out the window until you calm down. To every thought that comes to mind you say: “I can’t solve this now by worrying about it.”
