HOw to do tights
That’s the question
Tights. The verdict is still out on this item of clothing. I used to be anti tights and felt people should always keep their legs bare (negative temperatures or not) or opt for warm stockings.
I’ve deviated from my original standpoint and together with our fashion director Simone we’ve come to the following conclusions.
1. the thin pair of tights
Appropriate, but if you’re going for a thin pair, then go for one that’s got something cool imprinted into it. I wore one the other day underneath a wide fitted skirt which had a seam in the back. Very cool but had I worn it with a pencil skirt it would have been extremely tacky. A delicate touch.
2. stockings in your pumps
I’m kinda done with always having the chills so I always want a sock on my foot. I’m not a huge fan of thick tights – reminds me of the Mickey Mouse effect and don’t even get me started on skin colored ones. But one with a fishnet print is the perfect solution. And if you want to wear a stocking underneath your jeans it’s alright, we promise we won’t tell you’re lover… (Just make sure you take them off before any awkward bedroom situations.)
3. the thick tights
Go for these if you want a bit of an edge. Pair it with a sweater dress for example. Perfect match with boots cause they’ll resemble a pair of pants. Just make sure the boots aren’t colored cause this too will lead you straight back to the Minnie Mouse effect.
4. the shoe with the open toe
There are plenty of hip girls who wear their open toed shoes with tights but I still struggle. Especially when the front part has its seam showing. There are actual tights that have an opening in the front incase you want to wear them with open toed shoes but it just looks rather bizarre. So do you really want to wear those shoes, then just bare with the cold. Or save them for more appropriate temperatures.
