This is how you work out in New York
here we go
The Ricky Aston– experience. It’s one that you really need to experience when you’re in New York. Alright look, we were a little bit lucky that Ricky was willing to get out of his bed to give us a free workout on a Sunday morning (cause he is one of the most sought after celebrity trainers and that comes with a hefty price tag). “It’s not necessarily a hard workout, it’s all about consistency. You have to do it a few times a week. Occasionally working out has no use.” According to Ricky.
We met up with him at a huge gym on Broadway. Work Train Fight Club. That’s what it’s called.
The work-out
Alright, well Liesbeth and I were off to a shaky start. Especially since Liesbeth pointed out that I was the fit girl and that she’s the smoker who never works out.
We started off with some ab workouts where each workout took 45 seconds. So once you completed one, it was right onto the next one. It was all so quick. Here’s a ball, do some squats, plank, then legs up in the air and lift your butt. Luckily these were all things I knew how to do so we weren’t dawdling. And of course we were too afraid to say anything at first, but after half an hour it was impossible. Ricky kept going. Even a quick break or a sip of water was impossible.
Boxing is something we had done together before, though it had been a while since our last brawl. And along with that, Ricky (let’s hope he doesn’t see this) is just a tad smaller than the tall boxing trainer I am used to, so it took a while to adjust, but luckily we both had some good punches. Our eyes were set on the clock, and the ticker was well on it’s way to hit 11 which is when the workout would be over. Sweat was gushing over our entire bodies so looking good while working out was long gone.
the next day
“You’re done girls.” Hallelujah! And boy were we proud, cause we managed to complete Ricky’s training without going KO. He was hoping we would stay in New York a little while longer to whip us into a shape cause he said he saw some potential. Well, we’ll take that as a compliment. Satisfied, we went to have lunch at The Butcher’s Daughter (one of my favorite lunch places in the city) and had avocado with egg and soaked oats with fruit.
Liesbeth pretty much spent the following day crawling around and even headed over to the drugstore to get some Advil. The girl was in pain. I, on the other hand, only had a bit of soreness in my shoulders, but other than that I was fine. I was even ready for a follow up session. I guess the fitgirl title does suit me right? Just a little bit.
