It’s a phenomenon I can’t get my head around but people in the same biz have the tendency to repeat themselves, continuously. Of course every profession has it’s own terminology but fashionistas have a habit of gibbering total nonsense and forming them into empty clichés. And me? Yep, guilty, but just every now and then. In no particular order I give you a list of the most common heard clichés that aren’t the least bit true.
“I like combining expensive designer pieces with ZARA and H&M.”
Duh? Yeah, so? I also wear combinations of expensive pieces and Zara but not because I want to. Or as a deliberate choice for that matter. It’s because I don’t have the budget to dress myself head-to-toe in Net-A-Porter.com designer pieces.
“I STARTED A BLOG BECAUSE I NEEDED A PLACE TO EXPRESS MYSELF.”
SERIOUSLY, every blogger says this, and it might be true. But could you al least come up with something more original?
“Never start a blog because you want free stuff.”
It’s doesn’t have to be your main reason but let’s be honest; goodies and freebees are the cherries on the cake and are great secondary employment conditions. Remember that of all bloggers and editors that work freelance 98% don’t make any money in the first few years. And even after that they never have a secure income. So I say embrace those free goodies. You’ve worked hard to get them so enjoy. Give the things you don’t want or need to friends and don’t feel guilty about it. Oh and don’t be pretentious and say you don’t care. That is so not true.
“No i never GOOGLE myself. Ever.”
Another lie. Everyone Googles themselves, fashionista or not. And it’s the gospel truth everyone will be brazing those street style photos that were taken during fashion week, just to see if they can find themselves. And that brings me to the following.
“I don’t do it for the photographers.”
Haha Now that the biggest lie in the book, and another huge cliché. They all say it. But hoards of bloggers go to the shows without tickets so they might catch the lens of the street style photographers. They do nothing else all day than parade back and forth in front of the cameras. Absolutely fine, and it might get you somewhere. But don’t act as if you don’t care.
“I just watch what I eat and work out regularly. And I’m lucky, i can eat whatever i want.”
This isn’t exclusive to fashionistas but they how they look is their top priority. They will all tell you they follow an ordinary diet and just eat healthy, total baloney. Most of them hardly eat anything. But what about all those cute doughnuts and macaroons you see on Instagram? They just go back into their boxes, uneaten. An insider told me that leading up to the Coachella festival numerous bloggers start their ‘Coachella diet’ which means as much as; not eating. At all. The only one honest about this is Shea Marie from Peace Love. On her Instagram you see her working her ass off and drinking nothing but green shit.
