This is what you bring to a multi-day festival

As you know, in August I’m about to put a big stripe through one of the things on my bucket list, and that is going to the Sziget festival in Hungary. Now, I need to be honest. I will not be staying in a tent but in a hostel and I know, I know, diehard festival goers find this to be a total cheat. It is true that I have visited quite a few festivals in my life, but I never visited a multi-day festival. I’ve done some homework and that, combined with my “normal” festival experience resulted in the following packing list.

Bedtime Clothes
At home I always sleep in my birthday suit but at a festival this is maybe not so convenient. If I’m traveling I always forget something pajama-ish to take and if you have your own hotel room, there is nothing to worry about, but in a hostel it’s maybe not quite as funny. So PJ’s it is. Preferably long sleeping pants and a not too stupid shirt so that you can stumble your way to the bathroom in the middle of the night with no problem.

Raincoat
In Sziget the chance of rain is almost zero, but for those of you who go to some of the other european festivals like Glastonbury or Lowlands may be well aware of the rain that can fall at these events. There are always ponchos handed out that are super cheesy and super thin, and once they are wet you feel horribly uncomfortable. Try to find yourself a nice jacket that is also rain proof. You’ll feel so much better to be comfortably dry and still be looking good.

Lots of clean socks
My great secret savior during days when I’ve been standing on my feet the whole time. H/she who has clean dry socks is a happy person, so even if you’re only going to a three day festival, take at least 10 pairs of socks.

Something cashmere
Cashmere, you say? Yes! Cashmere is thin and easy to fold away when you don’t need it, but it is also quite warm for when you do need it. A sweater or vest; it does not matter, as long as it is cashmere and especially not polyester or viscose, because you have no sane business owning such an item.

Power Pack
The items of utmost importance: multiple power packs. With a power pack you can charge your phone and you’re not left to sit with an empty iPhone or have to stand in line at the chargers. I have three power packs (seriously) so I’ve always got one when I forget to charge the other.

Makeup wipes
Cotton facial pads can be a real hassle when you are on the go. There Is nothing like a freshly scented wet face wipe to get the gunk off your face at the end of a festival day. Also ideal to a little mid day freshen up.

Tissues
Or toilet roll, but at least something to wipe your bum with because you know that with every festival there is always a huge lack of toilet paper.
