What to wear to your office holiday party

Yesterday we gave you a little insight into the 10 items you’re going to want to have in your wardrobe this season to get in the swing of all things holiday related and how you’re going to steal the show at your annual work holiday party.

Always be aware that when you’re in the presence of you boss and everyone else you work with you want to maintain an appropriate appearance because you never know when you might get promoted. Add a fashion faux pas in the mix and you might see that promotion pass you by. So hereby some do’s and don’ts to help you through the evening.

TIPS

* Ask whether or not there is a dress code and if not, ask your colleagues what they’ll be wearing.

* When picking out an outfit, keep in mind the time and location the party is being held. Lunch at a random café is very different than a chic night out on the town.

* Most of your colleagues only see you on the work field. So this party is not the ideal moment to showcase what you’re like outside of work. Stick close to how you are at work, whatever way that might be.

* Keep your company’s culture in mind. If you work for a hip media company the dress code will be different from when you work at a law firm.

* Always remember: cover yourself up. Don’t show too much skin. A low V neck or a teeny tiny mini skirt are big no-nos.

* Be careful with glitter: don’t over do it. You don’t want to imitate a Christmas tree. Be subtle.

* Don’t try and be funny by wearing antlers or something on your head.

My final bit advice is to always remember you are with the people you work for and with. Don’t get drunk, act appropriately and remember that the classic LBD is always a safe option.

Happy Holidays!
