Conversation Piece Fun & Famous

why the heck is everyone suddenly using the term ‘bae’?!

Suddenly it was everywhere, as if it was some sort of collective everyone was in on (and we have Pharrell to blame); calling your significant other ‘bae.’ Bae stands for “before anyone else” so it pretty much means “you are the most important person in my life.” And it’s not only fourteen-year-old girls shamelessly obsessing about their bae’s, grown men are audaciously saying things like “me and bae, forever and always,” – gag.

It’s all over Facebook and Instagram, so unless we decide to give up on social media, we’re forced to deal with it. One sappy post after another are being pitched our way and we’re all patiently on the side lines watching. The thing that bothers me the most is the specific use of the term ‘bae.’ I can’t describe precisely what it is, but it drives me insane.

Maybe it’s because it is so over the top and hysterically mushy. Or perhaps it is because it always makes me think of the former Dutch Queen Beatrix anytime anyone mentions the word ‘bae.’ Can I even officially call it a word yet? I don’t think it has made the cut yet for new words in the Oxford English Dictionary. Let’s keep it that way.

The fact that normal grown up men are displaying this kind of behavior is a concept I cannot and will not grasp. I’m all for breaking down stereotypes when it comes to men and women but this has already gone too far. Guys, grow a pair. Be a man. Please tell me you haven’t caved and are also taking part in this hopeless word hype. I would classify it in the same group as #blessed and #loveofmylife so please help me God and tell me those aren’t part of your daily vocab either? Just saying.

PS. Fun fact: bae means poop in Danish. Just thought I would put that out there.
