10 THINGS THAT GO THROUGH OUR HEAD WHEN WE’RE AT THE HAIRDRESSER
Let me start this off by saying I am blessed to have not only the sweetest but also the best hairdresser in my country. I know that getting your hair done should be a moment of relaxation and that you should leave the door with a head of hair that is still perfectly styled a week later. I have to admit though, prior to where I go now, I’ve had my fair share of awful experiences at hair salons. The cuts would be alright (besides the bob which left me with some sort of trauma), but the word relaxation wasn’t necessarily fitting. If more than three of the below mentioned points sound familiar, you know what to do. Find a new hairdresser.
1. I don’t want her to be the one cutting my hair
You set foot into the salon and the first person that says something to you is the exact person you don’t want cutting your hair. But you’re too scared to say anything about it.
2. This chair is so uncomfortable
The stools always look very practical and comfortable. Practical yes, for the hairdresser. Comfortable? Far from it. Three hours later and you’ve never felt more stiff.
3. I said the ends. Not 20 centimeters.
The dilemma with hairdressers is that they have a different vision of your look. As clear as you might have been about what you want them to do to your hair, they still end up doing what they want to do. And those split ends you want chopped off? They’ll always add at least 10 extra centimeters.
4. I’m so not in the mood to talk to you
Chatterbox hairdressers. About the weather, their holiday and their kids. Good lord. Getting your hair done should be a moment of relaxation and this is NOT helping.
”And those split ends you want chopped off? They’ll always add at least 10 extra centimeters.”
5. How am I supposed to drink my tea/coffee
Another very recognizable problem. You get offered something to drink, but you’re incapable of maneuvering so that you can take a sip. So that cup of tea or coffee is going to be cold by the time you can actually reach it.
6. It’s definitely not like the photo I showed her. Because that’s exactly how I did want it to look like.
You skim through a couple of magazines so that you’ve got an example of the look you want to copy. Well, I’m here to shove you off cloud 9: that look ain’t going to happen. It might when you leave the salon, but as soon as you’ve showered and blow-dried your own hair: zero resemblance.
7. The water is too warm. Too cold. Too warm.
I once got my hair done and they washed it with ice cold water. I subtly asked them if there was any way they could heat up the water a bit, but according to this (somewhat famous) hairdresser, cold water was better for the products. He might have had a well known name in the industry, but I made sure never to drop by his place again.
8. This is taking forever…
Getting it chopped, chatting for at least half an hour and then answering phone calls in the process of it all. If you’ve got an appointment planned to get your hair cut, make sure to schedule it in, because they always end up taking twice as long as you would have liked.
9. I’m never going to purchase all the products they’re putting in my hair
A hair mask, serum, extra conditioner and some styling products. They’re great and all, but I hardly have time to use it all when I’m home and my wallet isn’t entirely thrilled on the idea either.
10. It’ll look better once I’m at home
The biggest fear everyone has is to walk out of the salon with a birds nest on your hair because of all the products that have been used. You’re always more excited about your chip when you get home. When you’ve washed it. Styled it yourself. Give it three days max and you’ll be happier with it.
