12 THINGS YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT DAVID BOWIE

Fully aware that I’m missing thousands of things which make David Bowie so memorable, damn, I’m supposed to say ‘made,’ I’m taking you through a little tour of his life.

The life of a man who was good-looking, sympathetic, artistic and very very musical. And who also happened to have the most gorgeous wife in the planet. Here’s to you, David Bowie.

1. Let’s start with the name. Because David Bowie’s real name is Jones. Not very celebrity proof and he was worried people would confuse him with Davy Jones, the name of the lead singer from The Monkees. He went for the name Bowie, a name that was inspired by the ‘Bowie knife’ developed in the 19th century by American pioneer Jim Bowie.

2. His destiny had somewhat already been planned for him when he was still in the curb. His mother ran a movie theater and his father worked for an orphanage where he took care of a bunch of performances for the kids and where David started his performances.

3. David had a half brother from his moms first marriage who suffered from schizophrenia. It was this brother, Terry, who had introduced him to modern jazz. Bowie had written numerous songs about his brothers schizophrenia such as ‘All the mad men’ and ‘Jump they say.’ His brother’s illness eventually led to him committing suicide. Bowie had not been at the funeral because he wanted to avoid it becoming a media spectacle…

4. It’s safe to say Bowie’s first marriage was an utter failure. It lasted 11 long years and did result in the birth of a wonderful son; Duncan Jones. A successful director who made movies such as ‘Moon’ and ‘Source Code.’

His brother’s illness eventually led to him committing suicide.

5. After his divorce, Angela sued David for 56 million dollars (yep, fifty six million). Obviously she didn’t get the money but what she did get was a ban to talk about the musician for ten years. As soon as the ten years were over, she headed straight to The Joan Rivers Show during which she claimed she had once caught Bowie and Jagger naked together in bed. So chic of you Angela.

6. David Bowie does not have two different eye colors. He just happens to have one pupil which is bigger than the other. The result of a bit of a brawl with his friend George Underwood when he was little. Apparently the fight was about a girl… The pupil was ‘frozen’ and size wise stayed bigger than normal which is the reason it’s so visible. George and David stayed friends though after their little scuffle.

7. Back in the seventies Bowie was very addicted to cocaine and lived off of peppers, coke and milk. A very odd combination if you ask me. He was so suspicious that people would figure out what he was doing that he kept clean urine in his fridge incase he was tested. His words, not mine.

Her Instagram feed is filled with a ton of reposts about her loving husband.

8. In 1992 Bowie married top model Imaan. They’ve been inseparable for 23 years which is highly uncommon in the entertainment world. Her Instagram feed is filled with a ton of reposts about her loving husband. Imaan and David have a daughter together; Alexandria Zahra Jones, born in 2000. I’m so curious about her but unfortunately her Instagram account is private…

9. Queen Elizabeth wanted to have Bowie knighted and make him a ‘Sir,’ but he kindly refused. “That’s not what I’ve been working for my entire life.”

10. Besides being an artist, Bowie was also an actor (‘Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence,’ ‘Labryinth,’ ‘The Last Temptation of Christ,’ ‘Twin Peaks’) and during his time off he spent a lot of time drawing, painting and making sculptures.

11. Bowie wrote the song ‘Fashion’ which was used for years for the MTV show called ‘MTV Fashion.’

12. The first lyric of his some ‘Lazarus’ from his new album is: ‘Look up here, I’m in heaven.’

RIP Mister Bowie, you will be remembered.
