5 LESSONS IN STYLE FROM TOP MODELS
It’s still Fashion Week and that means that all eyes are set on all that is new on the models on the runways. But even off the runway, these girls are the ones to watch. Just as you walk through your office day after day, these girls are always surrounded by the coolest stylists and the coolest fashion with the following result; models develop an uncanny sense of style.
1. Skinny jeans are, still, always a good idea
You’ll definitely see models wearing a pair of skinny jeans with a ripped knee, but it all has to look super nonchalant and like something random they put on.
A favorite label amongst the models is Rag & Bone (who are very generous when it comes to giving away their things) and Acne with their pencil-fit. Always skinny to show off their long, slim legs.
2. White T-shirt
Preferably not too tight. The ground rule is that you don’t have to flaunt everything. So when you’re slim, you don’t have to accentuate it with a tightly fitted skirt. A regular fitting that’s a little more loose around the waist with a regular oval neckline. I personally even like it if they wear a fun bra underneath it in a funky color. For castings, directors want to see models as plain as possible. In a white t-shirt with your hair tied up in a ponytail is the best way to go.
3. Chelsea boots or motor boots
Today’s top models are cool and edgy and need (driver or not) to walk a whole lot of meters. As pretty as Jimmy Choo’s and Louboutin’s are, walking around in them on a daily basis is not an option. So they opt for chelsea boots or of course some cool motorcycle boots. Made by Jimmy or Valentino, evidently.
4. The bag
See, and this is what separates the boys from the men. The bag determines where you stand as a model and what type you are. The tough and artistic Julia Nobis is more likely to walk around with a huge backpack than a Chanel, Maartje Verhoef swears by her COACH bag because she can fit so much into it and Chanel Iman wears (who would have expected anything else) a bright red Chanel bag. And top model Cato van Ee carries around this bag and this is what you’re find in it.
5. And then the make-up
Their makeup is exuberant as they head from one show to the next, but normally speaking you’ll spot a model as makeup free as possible. Perhaps a little touch up on the eyebrows and a tiny bit of mascara, but no more than that. Simple is the key.
