5 things you should never do with your bikini

Okay, okay, okay, you might be nowhere near a beach or a pool, but I’m sure you’ve already had at least one day (or more) and plenty to come during which you can wear your favorite bikini’s. I’m assuming that all of you were able to get your hands on a great new bikini (if not, give this a read) and don’t feel guilty if it’s a tad more expensive that the ones you’ve seen at Zara.

For everyone who’s credit card has been drained dry: here are five reason why it’s okay to purchase an expensive one. The key is, give it some extra TLC. That way it’ll last at least a few years.

1. Showering before the plunge

Something that is often advised is to hop underneath the shower because it’s more hygienic, but another reason why showering before you take the plunge is a great idea is because the water will close off the fibers and so you’re suit won’t take in all the chlorine and salt water. Admit it: smart little trick.

2. Rinse it out

Don’t leave your beach bag in the trunk of your car and think ‘I can leave it for tomorrow.’ Rinse everything after it’s been used.

3. Be careful with your sunscreen

Sunscreen might be your skins best friend, but not your bikini’s The grease has a way to soak into your suit which is precisely what you want to avoid.

4. Lay it down to dry

The material your suit is made up of sucks in all the moisture which makes it heavier. When you hang it out to dry, it’s stretch out. Rinse it after you went swimming and lay it down horizontally when you let it dry.

5. Be careful where you sit

When I was in Capri I had to pose in front of a boulder. The position wasn’t exactly what I would call comfortable and it nearly destroyed my bikini bottoms. Bikini’s (and bathing suits) are happiest on soft surfaces. As are we.
