what the heck is happening in the olympic village?

Not a day goes by that we aren’t bombarded with news from the Olympics. And then I’m not talking about the big wins, but also the crazy Rio riots that pop up. Behold: the most controversial, bizarre and unfortunately also sad news of the 2016 Olympics.

And forgive us, but perhaps these are things we spend more time talking about than the actual people winning medals.

1. Yuri van Gelder got sent home

What the? BAM. There goes our dream for the Lord of the Rings. Or should we call him the Lord of the Drinks? What happened? The 33 year old was asked to pack his bags after it was brought out that he spent his Saturday (after he had qualified for the ring finals) outside of the olympic village against the teams rules and didn’t come back until the early hours of dawn. With alcohol in his system. Why, Yuri, whyyyy?

2. Van Vleuten’s crash

Whaaaat happened? For the people who experienced the crash live: it was an ‘AHHHHHOHHHHNOOOO!!!#@*!! moment. Drama. Cyclist Annemiek was left with a concussion and three fractures in her spine after falling. Unfortunately she’s bed ridden for a while.

3. Hassan Saada’s arrest

What the? The 22 year old boxer Hassan was arrested exactly one day after his first duel at the Olympics. He’s being accused of molesting to maids in the olympic village.

4. Another arrest

What the? Jonas Junius was also arrested by the Brazilian police. The flag-bearer from Namibia apparently couldn’t keep his hands to himself either. Attention to all boxers: is it really hard to act normal?

5. Very sad news

What the? The 84 year old grandma of the Thai weightlifter Sinphet Kruaithong died from a heart attack shortly after her grandson won a bronze medal. The celebratory party was abruptly put to a halt when grandma Subin Khongthap collapsed onto the floor.

6. A proposal on the field

Luckily we’ve got some good news to. What happened? The Brazilian rugby player Isabella Cerullo (25) was proposed to by her girlfriend Marjorie Enya (28). Surrounded by the Brazilian rugby players teammates, Marjorie went down on one knee. Cute!
