6 things may-britt learned on capri

A week or so ago I ran into my neighbor when we were both heading home on our bikes and I told her I would be heading to Capri for work. She asked: “what are you going to do there?” I think it’s wise to fill you in on the fact that she works as a lawyer and so vacillating answer won’t suffice. When I told her I wasn’t quite sure she stopped biking right away. I was heading ABROAD (yes, now you have to raise your voice about seven octaves) and I didn’t know why? She was astounded.

But the trip was being organized by Danie and when Danie asks me anything, I pretty much always say yes. Why? Well because of this for example. But also because the other partner was Glamour and a lot of fun other women would be attending (former model Renate Gerstanowitz, former hockey olympian Fatima Moreiro de Melo, soccer player Anouk Hoogendijk, actress Bo Maerten, Lizzy van der Ligt and owner of intoIT Sabrina Meijer) and oh, Capri isn’t really the worst place to spend two days. My critical neighbor finally started understanding. Mumbled something about a ‘crazy job’, and we continued along on our way home and in my head I started counting the number of nights I had left before I would leave.

Yesterday I woke up in my fourteen meter long (I personally checked it in the morning) suite and I spent the night with a Starskin mask on my face. I then participated in a morning workout in the spa, followed by a pool session consisting of climbing onto an obnoxiously big pink flamingo.

I was surrounded by cool women and so tips were flying in right left and center which I am here to share with you guys today, cause hey, something about sharing is caring?

1. Vacuum bags

Okay, my first tip might be out of the blue and sound extremely unsexy, but when I tell you it helped me tag along three times the amount of baggage I thought I would be able to bring, I bet you’ll be hooked. Sabrina Meijer (from intoIT) has vacuum bags she puts her clothes into. She then uses her vacuum cleaner to suck out all the air and voilà, suddenly you’re able to bring almost your entire closet along for a trip. Make sure to check out whether your hotel has a vacuum cleaner you can use on your way back, or else you’ll have a slight problem.

2. The jeans and the bread knife

Another tip from Sabrina who was wearing a very nice messy pair of jeans. “I trim off the ends myself,” was her answer. “I use a bread knife, it makes it nice and messy.” All I have to say is; Do try this at home.

3. So this does work

There is a camera (from our friends at Nikon) which really does work underwater. Thirty meters underwater to be more exact. Sounds like plenty to me, you won’t be seeing me go any deeper than that anyway. It also has ‘something’ (I have no idea what it’s called: addition? Application?) that allows you to transfer all the photos without any cables to your phone so you can upload them onto your Instagram right away.

4. The best glowsticks

Another member of our group is makeup artist Dominique Samuels and anytime I travel with a makeup artist, I want everything he has. Besides the fact he got me hooked on VISINE to mark my red eyes (we had a really early morning, so a lack of sleep led to red eyes) I also want to know is secrets to shimmer pens. There are different shapes and sizes with a fresh face as an outcome, no more bags under your eyes and they give your a clearer bone structure. What you want to order is: the Madina stick, the KIKI Stick or one from Maybelline or Sonia Kashuk.

5. Il Riccio

Incase you’re heading to Capri any time soon (why not? It’s easy to fly to Naples and Capri is only a half an hour boat trip away), then drop by Il Riccio for dinner. This is where Danie had dinner for her wedding. The interior is a beautiful combination of blue and white, the waiters are impeccably kind, you eat lobster, risotto, squid and a whole lot of other fresh things. They have mini terraces, there is a rooftop, a staircase that will lead you to a boat and there is a sweet room with hundred different cakes, pies, cookies and marshmallows…

6. Shopping with Renate is a party

After having set foot into a few cute local stores, we also ‘popped by’ Gucci. Italian, so technically also a local. When we walked in, we realized Renate was wearing a Gucci dress and Gucci loafers. And her Céline Box Bag also worked like a red cape triggers a bull. If we wanted something to drink? Champagne perhaps? We stuck to Pellegrino, because we were much too busy trying on pumps, colorful espadrilles and belts. I went for the espadrilles. If I wanted a bag to carry it in? And when they give you a bag, they don’t give you a lousy plastic bag. The following day we planned to head back for a reprise.

I fly back today, sigh. But don’t worry, more where this came from.
