6 things you can learn from your interns

Technically speaking, an intern is there to learn from you – the person with (years of) experience to get a front row view of what the real working world is like. But at the same time, she (or he) can teach you a thing or two about things you might not know too much about.  Yes, myself included.

1. Snapchat

I don’t get Snapchat, I think it’s ugly (can someone please do something about that awful ghost logo?) but I still want to know everything there is to know about this app. Instead of putting in the energy to check it out myself, I have a super intern who knows Snapchat like the back of her hand.

2. Resume de luxe

Content wise, I know what works and what doesn’t for a resume (check it out here), but graphic wise, I’m surprised I even know how to fabricate a frame around my text. But nowadays a simple frame isn’t going to cut it. Last Monday I received a customized bottle of Chardonnay and a CV which resembled the editors pages of our website. I remember when our shopping editor Lilian applied for an internship she had made a mini portfolio that looked like a street style newspaper and it looked so good, I couldn’t not hire her. And we didn’t even have an intern position at the time…

”Everything I want to know but I’m too lazy or to digi-aged to figure out on my own.’

3. Instagram tips and tricks

How to crop photos, what the best filters are, the coolest people to follow, the best tricks to spice up your account and increase your followers and everything, everything, everything I want to know but I’m too lazy or to digi-aged to figure out on my own.

4. The coolest buys at Zara

They’ll show up at the office in the coolest suits that they didn’t have to break the bank for (a phrase they’ve never even heard of) at Zara or H&M…

5. Spreadsheets tips and tricks

“Oh no don’t worry, I uploaded everything into a spreadsheet. Wait, I’ll add it to your favorites list so you’ll see it in your drop down menu when you get on the internet.” Thus, our super sales intern Annick.

6. Need some help?

That would be Theo, our super intern turned full time employee – because that’s what happens when you’re that good. Anytime I walk passed his desk with my hands full, Theo will jump in and ask me if I need any help. He’ll keep the doors open, grab the bags I’m carrying and in the morning he’ll put a fresh cup of ginger tea on my desk.
