6 tips for better wifi
It’s actually pretty bad that we (or at least I and I hope I’m not the only one) start to panic when wifi isn’t working like we’d want it to. “But it’s my job,” is always my excuse and isn’t that the truth.
Certain parts of my house have a bad wifi connection, but the cause is still unknown. Unplugging and plugging routers back in, working with new cords and antennas, but nothing seems to work. My side of the bed, for example, doesn’t have any wifi, but if I roll over a tiny bit, the internet is suddenly extremely fast. And when the entire building is streaming Netflix, then the wifi is back to being extremely slow. Luckily May-Britt came to the rescue (who also suffers from frustrated wifi problems). She sent me an article from a telecom agency which consisted of tips to pick up the pace on your wifi connection. So here I am, sharing them with you.
1. Give your internet provider a call and ask them for a new router. If they’re nice, they’ll even come and install it themselves.
2. Continuing along with the router. Give it a pet, plug it out, and plug it in somewhere else. Talk to the thing like it’s your pet. You never know, maybe it helps.
3. Don’t hide your router in a cupboard or under your couch; you have to be able to see it.
4. Use apps such as Acrylic (Windows), NetGear Genie (Android) or WiFI Explorer (Mac) which channels your neighbors use and go for the one that gets used the least. Think of it as a game.
5. “Router antennas go in every direction manageable,” according to IT guys. “Check to see if the connection gets any better if you stick some tinfoil near the wand on the back of the router.” Worth a shot.
6. Oh yes, and the last but not least: reset your router. Resetting is often a solution a lot of people forget about. Always reset first.
