7 makeup mistakes that make you look 7 years older
But hey, don’t worry, it’s a quick fix
As you might have read last Friday, I recently met Naomi Donne and she taught me a bunch of tips and tricks about makeup that are going to have me leave my front door with a big fat smile on my face every morning. However, that still doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be careful. There are a couple of things we tend to still do wrong and they don’t work in our favor. And when I say they don’t work in our favor, I mean they make us look older than we actually are.
1. Foundation
Too much foundation, the wrong color foundation or incorrectly applying it to your face; all three can be a downright horror for your age. It’s your base, so what you want to do is create a youthful look. I mean, that’s what I am assuming you want to do. Keep it light, fresh and extremely thin. Stick to those three rules and then you should be fine. Get advise in a store about the most suitable color for your skin tone and opt for creams with light reflecting pigments.
2. Concealer
Okay, another thing to watch out for. The goal of concealer is to work away those blemishes and bags you want to cover up, but if you put on too much, you’ll only emphasize them. So same rule here; keep it light and fresh and don’t use it around your entire eye. Small dabs around it is plenty.
3. Powder
Powder helps keep your makeup in place, but make sure you use it properly. Dab your brush into the powder, lightly blow on it, then apply.
4. Dark lipstick
Dark colors are hot and happening at the moment, Dior agrees, but it can also attract more attention to the mouth which can emphasize your lips wrinkles. Plus, dark shades have a way of making your lips look smaller when in fact you were hoping to look like a Kardashian. My advice, go for a color a shade lighter.
5. Lines
Adding a wing on top of your eyes and on the bottom are going to make your eyes look heavy. Opt for one or the other and then add some mascara. This will make them look bigger.
6. Nails that are too long
Your hands are going to look their prettiest (and youngest) when you’ve got neatly polished short nails. Your hands will look well kept and that is exactly the impression you want to leave people with because remember – your hands are your business cards. Keep them smooth and refined.
7. Smokey eyes
Heavily made up eyes are going to make you look a lot older than you are. Great when you’re 16 and you want to head to a 18+ club, but not as great when you’re 35 and people think you’re over 40. When done right, smokey eyes can be amazing, but you don’t always have to stick to the color black. You can get the same effect with a softer shade of brown. That way you’ll have the smokey eye without having to worry about your age.
