7 REASONS WHY IT’S a GOOD idea TO BOOK A SPONTANEOUS HOLIDAY

I was planning on staying home. Spending my Kingsday selling my old things at a jumble sale, cleaning my house, finally meeting up with friends. But suddenly there was this unbelievably beautiful, sexy and heavenly house on Ibiza and all of a sudden I had booked five tickets (check this out if you want to know how to book cheap tickets). And it was an excellent idea, for the following reasons.

1. It empties out your agenda

Secretly my agenda was still packed with a couple of appointments here and there. I mean, technically I was off, but if I had to, I could schedule in an appointment. But now that I’ll be out of the country, I have to either cancel or set up a new date. And you know what? Those appointments can wait.

2. It’s great for your Instagram

There comes a point when you get tired of always making flat lays of your desk and photos of macaroons (that you obviously never eat but just use for the photos). Ocean waves, sea views and your feet in an infinity pool are an immediate upgrade for your Instagram account. Want to make a bet that you’ll have at least a hundred new followers and a bunch of new likes?

3. You create memories

When you stay at home, you’ll hardly remember how you spent your week off ten years from now. But when you go off on an adventure (preferably somewhere you’ve never been before), you’ll make a memory. Turn it into a photo album and you’ll carry it around for an eternity.

4. Your homecoming will be so much nicer

You bed is always so much nicer once you get back from spending a week in a hotel bed. Plus, you’ll be so happy to be able to use your own laundry machine and detergents again (why do rentals, as expensive and luxurious as they might be, always have the worst detergents from unknown brands?) and you’ll enjoy being able to make your own cup of coffee again. However, cooking and cleaning out the dishwasher require some time to get used to again.

5. Your color

I know sitting out in the sun helps the aging process, but nothing is nicer than hanging out in the sun heating up your pale winter skin. Make sure to use sunscreen and wear a cap if you plan on spending the entire afternoon in the sun. This way you’ll already be completely summer proof in the middle of May.

6. The world is your oyster

Booking spontaneous trips always makes it feel as though the world is your oyster. The longest you can spend on a plane is 24 hours, in which case you’ll end up in Australia. Knowing that this is possible, that you can suddenly be sitting somewhere in Stockholm or Paris having dinner; even a Chanel bag can’t beat that feeling. However, a spontaneous trip doesn’t have to be an expensive one. It doesn’t have to be about luxury, it’s all about adventure.

7. Love impulse

If the two of you go on an adventure together, you’ll experience things that’ll make you fall even more in love. That’s why you always hear stories about people who fall in love when they work on projects together (think actors and such). A spontaneous trip has that same effect. It helps you get out of your rut too. You won’t be spending hours in front of the TV (right?), your phones will be switched onto silent mode and you’ll find yourselves spending hours talking or hanging out reading books. And yes, if your travel buddies (in my case three girls that require a lot of attention) allow it, there will still be some time for some unexpected, steamy romance.

Obviously I plan on keeping a small diary (because not working never works for me) and fill my Instagram with tons of photo updates. Everything for new followers.
